If the US are too going to be selling switch 2 games for $80-$100

What is Australia going to be in for.
They probably will be $150-$200 a game.
Hard pass on this Switch. And it's all digital so that dictates the market
and makes games even more expensive.

Nintendo are being greedy with this console.

The most expensive Switch 2 games atm outside of two limited edition games are Mario Kart World and Cyberpunk which are both around $119, the rest are at $109 or below. Keep in mind our prices include the tax as well so we're getting a much better deal than what the US is. Some of the games on the Switch 1 are at a higher price on the Switch 2 because they are getting more content to it, but the only one I'm actually okay with on the price increase is Kirby because the new content looks rather expansive.

Still a decent outlay but looks like Mario Kart World is 10 bucks cheaper at Big W and JB.

Aside from Mario Kart which is basically 70 bucks if you get the bundle, all the other games seem to be 99 including Donkey Kong, which is about what you'd expect these days I guess? I got Monster Hunter Wilds for 99 at JB, which was the cheapest one for PC

The only real problem I have is that the Switch 1 games aren't truly backwards compatible, you have to buy some upgrade pass to play it. Charging 99 bucks for Kirby and Zelda again is just greed to me

They are and you can play them, just not with the updated performance, or with some cases like Kirby the DLC. Can skip the Switch 2 versions and just get the upgrade pass.

It looks great but don't think I can justify the cost right now, its a pretty decent outlay. I play Switch with the kids about once every two weeks and that's mainly Mario Kart and Marvel Ultimate Alliance: The BlackOrder. I also try to stick with Breath of the Wild so I think I'm upgrading my upstairs TV as my next purchase.

I don't really get the argument that games shouldn't increase with inflation when everything else does.

Goldeneye cost $99 in 1997 and it was made by about 15 dudes.

Games like Horizon, God of War etc retail at $99-109 and are made by thousands of people. Even 40 hours into Horizon I'm constantly amazed by the detail in the environment. An insane amount of work goes into those games.

The price for Mario Kart World is justified I feel given the sheer size and scope of it, and I love the concept of being able to go off race and drive whether you want for the sake of it. They have probably being working on this game for over 2 years. And the new game chat add on will make it even more enjoyable

Fans can stop having a cry now haha

“Physical versions of Nintendo Switch 2 Edition games will include the original Nintendo Switch game and its upgrade pack all on the same game card. Alternatively, some publishers may release Nintendo Switch 2 Edition games as download codes in physical packaging, with no game card.” said a Nintendo rep.

Agree wholeheartedly with this.

As far back as I can remember, console games have been around that $100 price point. Hell - I think I remember buying Donkey Kong Country 3 for SNES for $100.

It's absolutely bizarre that price points for video games hasn't increased as production costs have soared with each subsequent generation. AAA titles are produced by teams that rival Hollywood movies.

Agree.

If gaming is becoming too expensive for some then don't buy.

I also think people have become conditioned to having unfettered access to everything. I've got maybe 100-150 CDs on a shelf all purchased between early 90s and mid 2000s. But I can listen to pretty much any album ever released on my phone. So the idea of paying $20 for a plastic disc to listen to 10 Offspring songs is foreign to some people.

I have a Switch Online membership and it is $60 a year for retro stuff. Slightly annoying I can't just download games but it's not a big deal and not a big expense. It would be nice if Nintendo made it more like Xbox Game Pass so you could play newer games also but that's not really how they roll.

Anyhoo, I can remember all the old games I played because I only had a few of them. I still have a Nintendo 64 complete with the 5 games I ever owned in the 90s. I've since added Mario Kart 64, Wave Race 64 and Pilotwings 64 as second hand pickups as an adult but I never owned them as a kid. Turok, Diddy Kong Racing, 1080 Snowboarding, Ocarina of Time... these were great games I played that friends had or I rented from the video store. Owning 15 or 20 N64 games was a shitload of money in 1997. Was pretty normal that I would have Goldeneye and a friend would have Mario Kart and we're get together for multiplayer sessions or swap cartridges for a few weeks. Multiplayer now is mostly online so if 4 friends (soon to be 24!) are playing Mario Kart that will mean 24 copies of the game (AFAIK you can't game share that but stand to be corrected). A friend of mine has a kid that is 9 or 10 and already has more Switch games than I have Nintendo games combined after a few decades. The whole backlog thing is real.

Great post. We're definitely living in the age of entitlement and instant gratification. "Games shouldn't cost that much because then I can't buy them all."

My sister took the N64 when she moved out because I'd bought a Gamecube and PS2 by then, I've since bought another second hand one, but I remember we only ever had 9 games. My dad made a game storage tower out of wood for me that had 10 slots and I remember never filling it up. 9 was as far as we got over about 4 rounds of birthdays and Christmases. That last spot used to taunt me, lol. Especially since I did get WWF No Mercy for a Christmas but it ended up being the buggy version that we just returned.

Mario Kart, Lylat Wars, Goldeneye, WWF Warzone, WWF Attitude, Top Gear Rally, Forsaken, F1 World Grand Prix, Star Wars Episode 1 Racer.

Anything else we wanted to try we had to hire. I'd have hired WWF Wrestlemania 2000 enough times to buy it, I'm sure.

Found an ad from I think 1997.

N64 console $299 down from $399. Controller $49. Mortal Kombat Trilogy $119. Turok $129. Cruis'n USA $79.

According to the internets $299 in 1997 is worth about $620 today and $399 is $830.

Mario Kart World looks fun, but it looks quite stagnant when compared to the last one and it's been 11 years. Should have been a Switch 1 game.
Switch 1 couldn’t handle that open world with so many racers and things going on.
