Is Dunn any good? What position is he?

I mean, he's played 4 games in 2 years, so there is a good reason I've never seen him play!

Not that I rate Hay anyway.

Well, I'm taking the fact that this is Freo we are dealing with into account.

Hay and Greene (who suits Subiaco) for Dunn and 10. ;)

Really, I just want Dunn so I can say we effectively got Croad, Mitchell, Hodge, Elstone and Dunn for Hay and McPharlin.

Dunn is a strong inside midfielder with plenty of courage, good skills but lacks pace. Was a dual All Australian at under 18 level which is rare. Would be suited to a half back flank at this stage of his career. If you want a comparison I guess he is a similar type of player to Luke Hodge. Has had several minor injuries in his 2 years at Freo. There will be plenty of interest from Vic clubs if the rumours are correct.

No chance. Hay is worth more than Dunn.
Dunn + Gilmore + 26 = Hay + 38.

Why Gilmore? Why not just Dunn and 26? Gilmore is meeting with Port maybe we could do somethig there

I want to know if a club bringing up a contracted players name is that out of the ordinary?

Plenty of players are traded while contracted. Leigh Brown and Adam McPhee were traded while contracted even though both were happy to stay in WA. The issue here is that Dunn committed to us only a couple of months ago when he could have gone home through the preseason draft. He would see it as a case of I've done the right thing by Freo now they are trying to sell me to the highest bidder.

Instead of doing it secretly Connolly should have rang up Dunny and said- "We've had several inquiries from rival clubs about you future, you're certainly a popular young man, but we're keen for you to stay in Perth." Then if we find a deal that we're happy with you ring him back and say- "team ****** are really keen to pick you up, there is going to be more opportunities for you at the other club, how would you feel about being traded to them so you can be closer to your family because I'm not sure that you're going to get many games next season."

Get you a job if you keep talking like that? I bet most coaches dont put it that nice, very well worded and thought through.

Dunn hasn't proved anything yet and Hay still has a lot to offer and with a new club may perform to his best once again
Dunn has proved he'll be a player, Hay hasn't done much for a while now. It's interesting you say with a new club Hay may perform at his best once again at a new club, well Dunn may also reach his potential; which is probably more logical to assume.

I hate how some people can judge players purely on reputation. Just because they don't have 100 games under their belt doesn't make them hacks.

Good move by Freo IMHO if they can offload Dunn and 2nd rounder for Hay. They don't need Dunn, he is another clone of Carr, Bell, Haselby et al.

Acquiring Hay gives them a rock solid defence of Haddrill at FB and Hay at CHB, with Parker or Johnson taking the third tall.

This then frees up Polak to go to CHF, with Pavlich standing closer to goal, say a mid HF / FF, and having McPharlin leading out of the goalsquare.

If they get those three firing up front it will be almost on par with the St Kilda forward line of Gehrig, Riewoldt and Kosi.

Now are they need are some tall and quick midfielders with big motors, an Embley type of player.

I've seen Dunn play at AFL level and I've never seen a player look as lost as he does. He also doesn't seem to rate much of a mention when he has been on the park for East Freo. He might be a bit like Croad and could just never get settled over here. I think he's had two broken collar bones and sundry other injuries. He's definitely more injury prone than Hay thus far.

He's definitely not a clone of Bell and the others as he has at least 10 kilos of weight over those three.

I can't fathom Dominguez suggestion that Connolly has done this on the sly. If he has its as weird as all get out because CC would have signed off on the three year contract they gave him. Dunn will do nicely getting a three year deal at another club given his history so far.

Personally, I think Freo are having a bit of a dip at Hay but probably won't sell the farm to get him. I think Polak might be more likely as a trade option.

Keep dreaming. Say Hay is approximately worth pick 10, how on earth is Dunn worth pick 6?
Hay is based a pick 10 based on what? His track record is one time all Australian... 4 years ago. In the last 3 years, he has done as much as Dunn has, which is nothing. So really we are basing this on potential. Given Dunn has 10 years left and Hay has about 3 or 4 years left, Id say Dunn is the one more than likely to fullfill his promice

Re: Nixon: Freo offering Dunn up for trade

Trading Dunn would be the smartest thing freo has ever done on the trading front.

He is still rated highly in Vic but has done stuff all in WA. Really hasnt done much at all. Cannot pick up the tempo of the games, and plays backpocket for the sharks without staring. He did get injured abit this year but was crap before that.

He is still probly worth a 1st rounder on the open market, Freo are doing well shopping him around IMO.

2005 Stats : Hay- 20 games, 192 possessions, 74 marks
Dunn - 2 games, 5 possessions, 2 marks
...to say nothing of the fact that Hay has held down a key position all this season and successfully negated a number of his opponents which is why C.Connolly & D.Laidley are showing an interest.
