Tasmanian Kangaroos. Which other club has a different name for their womens team? Happy for all the folk working hard to secure the licence but the name is a sell out.Again? When did we last have an AFL, VFL and AFLW team based in spanking new headquarters with an expansion and ground development plan for Arden St well progressed?
No-one is bringing me down from the great news this represents for North Melbourne and the women and men who have worked for years to have our women's team ready to go.
And anyone feeling like being a misery guts should have a look at the video taken at Arden st today.
Plus the great work being done by the Huddle.
Have the new clubs nominated a home ground?
Geelong is keen to play at Simonds Stadium, as its VFLW side did on occasion this year. North Melbourne is expected to announce further details about its connection with Tasmania this week, but playing its Melbourne games at Arden Street is unlikely, given the capacity is around 3000. Richmond, West Coast, St Kilda and Gold Coast do not take to the field until 2020, but Gold Coast's Metricon Stadium base has already hosted the AFLW Grand Final.
What does the competition look like beyond 2019?
By 2020, the AFLW will be a 14-team strong competition. Two teams will be based in both of Western Australia and Queensland, New South Wales will be represented by Greater Western Sydney, while Adelaide will still be the sole South Australian side. There will be a whopping eight teams based in Victoria (including North Melbourne).

Calling it the Tasmanian kangaroos didn't make it a joint venture imo
It's just a tassie women's team then

North admin believe differently.
The team is representing Tas and North, the former a key reason we got the license.
If you don't like it then don't support it, fine. Others think differently.
That it's going to be called that? No. Funky Carl's been noncommittal on it when asked, though. Presser tomorrow in Hobart with the premier. Is this official?

Few snippets:
Unless I’ve missed something glaring, Can’t see any reference to Tassie Kangaroos.
Including North Melbourne eh? Any reason why they'd need to mention us separately? Is there some doubt we're a Victorian team? There will be a whopping eight teams based in Victoria (including North Melbourne)/

Put me down for the 'very happy with this news, congratulations to all involved...' and, at the same time, 'watching developments closely' position.
Unlike many others at the time Tassie was first mooted, I expressed the view that I'm okay with a form of 'co-location' if managed well, and the number of Tassie games doesn't go beyond four per year (five at the very most). However, I've been on alert ever since the club rejected the motion to limit the number of home games played outside Victoria, in lieu of 'our HQ will always be at Arden St.'
Once again, happy to see NMFC get a license and truly hope it succeeds and that it helps build our brand, rather than diminishes it.

Like I said earlier I'm very happy we got the license but concerned over the lack of details
Yeah, that's not a 'North Melbourne' team if that article is correct.
Great call GG, but I would also like to watch with a frothy in hand then I am also fully catered for.I can't wait. Combines my two passions in life. North and women. Great work by the club. VFL + AFLW. Two positive moves that will increase our membership and help get the arden street development wheel turning.
It's a North Melb license not a North Melb team. It's a dual benefit.
It's a Tasmanian/North partnership - otherwise the license would go to Tassie solely and North refused but.....that's right, no Tassie team exists so North gets the license due to our AFL connection.
