Really good story on Brit Gibson, with some great reasons why she's headed to North

Yeah reading that story and learning of new Gibbo's connection to Tasmania through mum with MS and pregnant fiancé', besides the fact that she BFNAAK'd, it's clear why we were keen on her months ago. And if Craig Sookavitch thinks that's against the spirit of AFLW, then he has no place in AFLW.

The membership is really just a show of support. It is not about entry fees.
Yeah. It's for potential supporters who are more interested in the women's than the men's and wouldn't ever get a regular membership, and people who want an easy way to kick in a bit extra (and a birthday card from Emma Kearney). Gets them onto the club's mailing list so it's win-win.

The only other thing was this year when they were worried about the AFLW GF being a lockout, they opened the doors to members half an hour before the general public.

I’ve got a 5 y/o daughter & a 6 y/o daughter. I’ve been trying to get them interested in footy from day 1 without much luck.

When I told them that the Roos have a girls team now. They both got excited and told me they want to watch it.

So yeah,I guess I’m on board now. Just wish Tassie wasn’t on the jumper

At least it won't be when they play here.

I haven't been following this closely so apologies if it has already been raised but will the 2018 AFL draft order be
changed to downgrade successful clubs in obtaining free agent transfers?

Yes I can just imagine Stephen Hocking announcing that Geelong will not get to pick until the 4th round of the draft due to the number of free agents who elected to join the club on minimum salary (and no need to look at that recently acquired parcel of land around Torquay that was conveniently rezoned residential.)

The draft order is whatever the AFL thinks will help equalise the fledgling competition, as it seems to have been every year.

It's laughable that the AFL thinks it has the ability to manipulate the draft and various team lists to equalise the competition. If they could do that, we wouldn't have seen so many premierships shared by so few teams.

There's only been 2 premierships ...

The key word is "fledgling", i.e. the policy relates to the AFLW competition (albeit administered by the AFL).

Yeah perhaps I wasn't clear. The point I was trying to make is that if the AFL actually had the competence to judge lists and manipulate the draft to even up the competition... ANY competition... the way they think they can, then the men's comp would not be as lopsided as it has been. I understand that this particular form of manipulation is exclusive to the AFLW competition, but the point I was making is that these idiots are not capable of judging a list and nor have they shown themselves to be able to manipulate a draft evenly or fairly without repercussions that undermine the very intent.

So being competent at acquiring talent needs to be punished.

They’d never do it in the men’s comp or they’d be in court quick smart.

Griersen and Humphries are really good pickups for what was paid for them. Both are footballers first, not cross code converts or 'athletes'. Griersen is on the tall side, but still very mobile, so she provides a lot of flexibility. Humphries has all the skill in the world, and is a very smooth mover, but at Melbourne, just didn't get the ball enough, however, that may relate to Melbourne having Daisy, Paxman and O`Dea in the midfield, who are all ball magnets.

Cheers for the info. Gives us a good idea of what they can offer.

Good pickups.

Alex has come over from Carlton AFLW. Has a master's from ECU in Western Australia which is in top 20 world wide for sports science departments (only deakin and uni of qld are ranked higher in australia). Other credentials on point.

NorthW players are in good hands.

Fun fact: there are 20 tertiary sports science departments globally

Rankings have a broad mixture of health promotion, physiology, human movement etc. so they group them under one umbrella in the shanghai rankings. Also harder as a lot of countries call the topic a different name. Even at ECU you get the health science/sports science overlap.

Australia has 21 universities inside the top 300.

ECU sport's scientists have a good track record. Most recently one of their master's graduates got picked up to be Arsenal's academy strength and conditioning coach.
