Tayla Roberts (Open-Age Signing)
191cm - Ruck

Hailing from Launceston, Roberts looks to be a valuable cross-code rookie, primed for a ruck role.

Currently representing the Dandenong Ranges in the Women’s National Baskeball League, the 191cm athlete will be one of the tallest players in the competition.

“During Tayla’s trial she demonstrated some terrific qualities, as well as tactical skills that we think will see her develop into a genuine ruck,” AFLW List Manager Rhys Harwood said.

“Tayla’s height and strength will certainly make her a very tough opponent to play against.

“Her experience as an elite athlete will bring significant off-field strengths to our club and will ensure she gets the most out of herself as she adapts to a new sport.”

The AFL do like a comprised draw...
They also seem to be regularly shooting themselves in the foot: barely promoting the 2nd AFLW season and instead pushing the AFLX (why???), the recent talk of trialling rule changes during the season and now this. If they can’t organise a fixture where each team plays each other this season, what will they do when more teams are added?

Have they though? I can remember hearing about AFLW in multiple instances recently, can't remember the last time I heard AFLX mentioned (outside of your post).

They definitely seemed to push the AFLX more than the AFLW earlier in the year (what I was referring to). Not sure anyone wants to talk about AFLX... decent enough idea but poorly handled.

This would be the whole point. Marketing for AFLW fell of the table this year in favour of AFLX. Despite this there is still more talk of AFLW than AFLX because AFLW is seen as real footy and it has real fans and supporters. AFLX is a gimmick, but the AFL devote air time, marketing budgets and resources to it to artificially pump it up, and relegate the real sport, AFLW to gimmick status.

Would AFLX fans and supporters be up in arms if the AFL announced changes they didn't like? The answer is no, because no one considers themselves an AFLX player or supporter. That the AFL seems a little surprised by the reaction indicates to me they have AFLW firmly in the AFLX wheelhouse

AFL CEO says final decision on format of AFLW season not yet made http://m.afl.com.au/news/2018-08-03/gill-rejects-gimmicky-aflw-fixture-call
****ing idiotic. I don't have much interest in the AFLW, at least at this stage, but even floating that idea is insulting. And then to call AFLW the AFL's top priority? We all know it isn't, getting more money for the next sodding broadcast rights is. Does gil just have no feel for the room temperature? Is he completely insulated from popular footy fan opinions? I'm genuinely beginning to wonder if he's just a ****ing idiot who is good at kneading the egos of those he can make money off of and lucked into top spot after Dmitrio shafted Anderson.

Gilligan has the odd coffee with Clarkson, that is about as much pulse as he gets.

Well I didn’t vote for him.
