Brisbane is the pink ball Test this year. That will be over in 2 days.

I've got tickets for the 1st 3 days of Adelaide Test. Any good pub recommendations Gasometer :D

I only know them from their Facades

I’m looking fwd to going back there

Little Gaso is likely moving there in 2026

When do Gather Round Tix go on sale?

Not sure but will you'll save a fortune on accommodation by staying at Gaso jnrs house. The place is probably already booked out

That’s the problem

They are moving sometime in Dec to Jan

So no place atm

My crack at an 11 for the first Test:

Khawaja
Weatherald
Labuschagne
Smith
Head
Green
Carey
Starc
Cummins (Boland)
Lyon
Hazelwood

Webster 12th & very unlucky, but Marnus' domestic form at 3 is amazing right now, and we desperately need to find a proper longterm opener which Weatherald may well be. With both of them in there's just no room for Beau :(

I too am tending to favour Weatherald ,but Konstas’s 50 in the second dig against the Vics will most likely have the selectors falling over themselves to pick him.

Only chance for 4 quicks would be the pink ball test at the GABBA, otherwise we'll be gauranteed to play a specialist spinner.

Gaz isn't cooked, just barely had a chance to bowl lately with the quicks dominating. He's still taken wickets when the conditions have given him a chance. He also looked to be the bowler the Bazballers had the hardest time trying to put away in the last series over there. We would've won the series if he didn't get injured

He's been cooked for years.

An Offie without a Doosra is ordinary at best.

The bloke I picked instead of him averages 1/2 what he does in Shield Cricket this year. Time to move on from the Pie Thrower who has never won us anything, he's had a few good sessions and his record looks good because he's had 3 Champions bowling at the end - 2 keeping it tight.

He's our Eduardo Tucker these days.

Do they have Pubs in QLD? Interesting, I thought it was just "Class A" up there.

Brisbane, interesting. Not sure that needed to be changed as it swings in the Day Time in QLD should be a corker Test for 2.5 Days.

He's never needed a doosra, he gets wickets through accuracy and consistency. We have Starc as the attacking bowler, whatever combination plays out of Gaz, Hazelwood, Cummins and Scotty B are line and length bowlers who keep it tight and get wickets.

His average has also steadily come down over the last few years, so don't think he's cooked.

O'Neil has a fantastic shield record, but he bowls at 125kph. Unless it's a green top, he'd be cannonfodder for the Bazballers.

Spin bowling is where England have looked vulnerable in recent times, as seen in India and Pakistan. If Gaz doesn't play we'd have to pick Kunhemann or Murphy.

Yes, I'm aware. But Australia is not the sub-continent, it doesn't spin/swing/barely seams. It's nude nut central.

Horses for courses, it is.

Lyon is an ordinary bowler with a really good record, he's lucked out to have this career.

To persist with this cat, is putting the Ashes at risk. I would have loved to have faced Lyon, what a pleasure.

And every ball he bowls he raises his hand like it was so close to a wicket.

He’s just ok.
JThe amount of times he’s had the chance to win a test on the last day and hasn’t
Nathan Lyon has taken 4+ wickets in the fourth innings of a test that Australia has won on 11 occasions.

I always defend Gaz, because people compare him to Warnie. It's not realistic

SK Warne was a genius, a once off who could get wickets through sheer intimidation as often as through his prodigious turn. We'll never see another like him.

Gaz doesn't have the gifts of Warnie, but has made fine career out of what he has. Accuracy and guile can still have an impact, when batsmen attack him he gets wickets because he bowls very little trash.

We need to either juice the decks, or dry them out and produce rank turners. I'd lean to the latter, it's what the Poms would least want.

If we serve traditional Aussie flat decks, we're in trouble. The Bazzballers ( Crawley, Duckett, Brook and co) will slog from the hip at 5 an over and make 400-500 in the 1st innings each test. Need to make batting as hard as possible

Where do you get this so it can be verified? I'm not saying I don't believe it, but I don't believe it.

The blokes' average is 10% higher than Kapil Dev. He's really Harbhajan in pristine whites.

Kapil Dev averaged 29.64
Nathan Lyon averages 30.14
I disagree with your take on him strongly, but at least make it factual

He'll be averaging close to 33 by the end of the summer. I may have jumped the gun.
If he takes the none for 1604 it would require for that prediction to come true then I'd be happy to put the fork in him.
I'm tipping that doesn't happen

Haha I really respect the attention to detail.

Now the retort
...
That'll probably be his figures of wickets without which, we couldn't win the game. Gets a few basically soft(ish) wickets. We're hardly going to miss his him yes, it occasionally offers some bounce and whilst difficult to play, is easier with the drop-ins present throughout the nation.

I'd rather a new aggot bowler (whilst slow) to hoop it around a bit, I think that'll be good at one end, especially when the oppo are wanting to take you on.

Nathan Lyon has more 5 wicket hauls in the 4th innings of a test match than Shane Warne, fwiw.
I'm not disputing this. My comment was based around winning games for us, and in particular bowling us to victory (as the rest of the team couldn't help).

I will die with the opinion that 'Gaz' though a great bowler, hasn't led us to victory when the conditions favour him (and we need him to fire). Ie: India in India, England in England, South Africa anywhere.

What's his record against these countries when it really counts? 1-10? To even have him in the same sentence as SK is unfair to him.

For the record, Warne's average went up to 26, it was ~24 for years. Warnie also had injury after injury, if he'd had a clear bill of health he'd have taken 850.

Afghanistan lost 9 for 50 on the first day of their test against Zimbabwe. Brad Evans with a maiden test 5 for.
