Seemed like a reasonable pitch and the bowling was good. But that would have to be the worst day of batting I've ever seen. Both teams were pathetic

Choosing to break convention and play the first test in Perth was always interesting given England’s pace attack is faster than ours. Putting out a lively greentop as the wicket has only made it more interesting. Thankfully England’s batting means we are not out of this but those decisions pretty much negated any home field advantage.

What happened to Keep your eye on the ball, value your wicket and pick your spaces…not this dumb shot selection.

Despite Starc's lone hand with the ball......we bowled poorly.

interesting first day. some pretty poor batting from both sides.
Normally the poms arrive in Aussie with a pop gun fast bowling attack but they now have some bowlers with some serious wheels. Bowled straight too. Liked the look of Atkinson . Like an English version of Hazelwood.
Just really good as a neutral watching Wood and Archer bowl quickly.
and having Stokes as your 5th seamer........

Got massively thrown off balance when Kuwaja went off the field at the end of the England innings and couldn't open. I don't know if it was injury or illness but I can only assume it was one as would have been madness to be off the field when you have Joffra and Wood at the crease.

But man o man, Smith and Marnus look totally out of form. Good players don't get hit and Smith was hit like 5 times. He and Marnus' strike rate was about 10/100 balls and looked miles off it.

Then the total brain fade by Carey who just threw away his wicket was unforgivable.

The Carey dismissal.

10 minutes to go before close of play, fielders on the fence and he scoops one up to 3rd man. A baffling shot when he was going at a run a ball keeping it on the ground.

Head was always going out. Played across the line to everything on the stumps and anything wide was spooned towards slips, gully or 3rd man.

Khawaja looked disinterested. He couldn't get back to the sheds any quicker.

It's dads army out there and they played like it. Starc is the only player who performed at his peak. The other 10 you could swap out at will.

Hounds are baying for Khawaja's blood. Seems he spent test eve playing golf and then went off with back spasms throwing the batting order into disarray. Lot of cricket folk not happy.
