The view in England of their team before the series was that they needed a fast start to get ahead and build confidence. They are a very good side when their confidence is up. When they are under the pump and chasing any kind of competitive score it tends not to go so well.* They are low on confidence and under pressure. If we get anywhere 350+ they will need 500+ to put us under real pressure. I just do not see it happening.

* Unless Root or Stokes do something immense

With the greatest amount of respect, you shouldnt listen to them about anything but Boxing. They flat out don't know.

Just so you know...

They have 1 more World Cup than us football. 1 less WC in Rugby Union (somehow, given they love it and it's a clear #2 and for us it's 6th/7th)

It was strange. I dunno if it were obvious... clearly if you were fielding in 35 degree heat, you'd be pissed, but it wasn't clear cut for mine.

Was there a deviation? My eyes are a bit "Maria Sharapova" these days.

Still have a feeling that at some point the Poms will get going in this series, when the likes of Brooks and Smith come off they can score quickly and heavily. They will never get a better opportunity than this one

They've had their two warmup matches. Unfortunately they were also the first two Tests. They'll be alright from here.

The Australian batting line up is so ordinary. The only players in yesterday's line up who has their place in the batting order under no review is Lyon at #10.

Weatherald, Inglis, Green and Labuschagne's spot in the team isn't guaranteed. Boland at #11 probably isn't playing if Hazlewood is fit. Starc should be batting ahead of Cummins. Khawaja and Head could swap. Carey only just moved to 6.
