They have mistaken talent with exhilaration over moments, or short periods of excitement. Chasing down fourth innings totals on roads and small ovals occasionally does not signify a great team. Great teams rarely find themselves in these positions in the first place, and it’s not sustainable across series.
Bazball is about the individual being the hero in a single match, not a team winning a series.

The Poms will continue to underperform their talent unless and until the ECB is reformed. Rob Key is the personification of their problem.

As a player he massively underperformed his talent due to his inability to lay off pints and pies and unwillingness to train. His appointment as MD of England cricket in 2022 was a shock as it went against the swing to professionalism of the previous 10-15 years.

His longevity in post and retention for the Ashes despite his clear inadequacy (England surrendering all their one day titles, poor test results) was inexplicable. He wholeheartedly embraced Bazball as it is his personal dream set-up. Just rock up, play then party. No preparation, no practice games, no boring stuff.

They can’t be taken seriously whilst he remains in post IMO.

Not very smart to essentially say winning two dead rubbers makes the Ashes trip a 'pretty good series'. If anything, it puts more of a microscope on England's ability to win when the pressure is on. It doesn't hide the cracks as they want the public to believe.
