Kellaway and peake definitely long term options as they're very young still but would be amazing to get them into the set up. Atm head looks too good as an opener to move him back so he defs takes 1 spot with hopefully renshaw the other. Another middle order player overlooked handscomb could come in to replace khawaja has been stiff over the last few years

Think Handscombe might be in the tried, failed, pass group.

If there was a Sixth Test I'd open with Renshaw ahead of Weatherald, replace Khawaja with McSweeney at 5 and one of Webster or Green with a spinner - probably Murphy.

I’d be happy with that I reckon! Batting line up would be pretty raw, but still has some experience. I’d much prefer a spinner over two all rounding seamers. Murphy is good enough to hold up an end and we have some decent depth there with Kuhnemann and Roccochioli.

Geez we are going to be light on for first choice attacking options once Starc and Hazelwood call it quits. Most of the decent youngish bowlers keep getting injured (Morris, Richardson, Spencer Johnson etc).

Durely it won’t get as bad as Doug Bollinger bowling first change….

So we wonder why test batting is shithouse these days.

The average first class retainer in Australia is a tick over $103,000. Plenty on less than that.

The average BBL retainer is $167,000 for a month of cricket. That's not even considering that you can go overseas and cycle through the leagues despite never being good enough to play for your country. And the match payments are far more generous.

I know first class cricket doesn't attract crowds but if we want to see test success then the national level players are going to need to give up some of their lucrative payments to support a strong domestic first class comp.

If you're someone like say D'arcy Short, do you focus on your test technique or do you make hay while the sun shines and audition yourself for T20 contracts whenever possible?

Cam Green can play, he's just lost his confidence. Plus hasnt he missed a chunk of cricket through injury lately ?

I think there is more in this track than what the Aussies have got out of it. Bowled a bit short IMO
Nice try.

That's the cricket equivalent of hoping * hold on to Dodoro forever.
