As a cricket lover to say I was looking forward to Ashes is like saying you're looking forward to number 5.

The actually series was majorly disappointing. 425 first innings first test and the Poms could only muster 147. Game over and series over.
2nd test 473 compared with 236 and it was two zip.

So why is the question- we've certainly got a decent bowling attack which helps immensely. I think the conditions which are poles apart is the major reason. We have quick pitches with bounce. Ball doesn't tend to swing that much. In England Anderson has the wonderful average of 24.2 in Aus 33.6.
He's a class bowler, just not in Aus for the most part.
Of course us winning was what I desired, would have rather it much closer though.
Except that three of the pitches were green tops. They could have been transplanted from England they were that green.

English batting is absolute s**t. They have no patience and no idea how to play against an attack that bowls consistent line and length.

Their bowling looked okay in patches, once they got their length right. They for the most part held their own imo, their batting is what destroyed their chances.

I read today that of all the English batsmen that have debuted since 2011, only Root averages over 40, and most average under 30.

English bowlers just need to get fitter to bowl those longer spells that NZ/Aus/Indian/SA bowlers can do. Robinson is talented, but very unfit for a professional cricketer. Wood couldn't sustain his spells, Woakes, Broad and Anderson as well.

They also need to look at their spin development as it is s**t house.

The batsman couldn't sustain long spells when batting either.

Focusing on what is immediately fixable. Their batting will take years to fix. Their fielding wasnā€™t super flash either.

Don't the Poms only care about 20/20 and one day cricket these days?

Its no wonder they can't actually bat...
It's fascinating watching blokes like Atherton and Hussain talking about the obsession English cricket has with white ball cricket since their abject failure in the 2015 World Cup. It brought them the 2019 World Cup (luckily, bizarrely) but sent the Test team spiralling into the abyss we saw this summer.

The coaching set up they have is crap. Australia went down the coach and captain being selector path under Arthur/Clarke after the Argus Report and it was a disaster. Players with technical issues or low on confidence felt they had nowhere to go for fear of their candidness leading them to being dropped. To have the coach being the sole selector is crazy. Clearly there is legitimate debate on the composition of the England team but where it matters, the selection table, is the only place it doesnā€™t happen.

They're a rabble. It's great we won the Ashes, but the big goal for Australian cricket this year is winning Test cricket on the subcontinent - something we haven't done in nearly 20 years.

Alex Carey lost that game for the striker's. His keeping is nowhere near international standard.
