Yeah, but PDR making calls on his behalf doesn't make him a PDR stooge.

PDR never liked the boys club we've got at board level, I imagine he would have done the same for any outsider running.

Only because PDRs boy's club left us broke and facing relocation.

IMO there is only one way a non board appointed board member is getting in the board.

Step 1 ensure they have the appropriate resume to pass the hurdle of the selection committee bizo.

Step 2 campaign at all home games, press flesh, make stance on topical issues known

Step 3 have rank and file groundswell

All.of this needs to be done in season at Docklands home games.

Also would need to be done by someone with the profile to do it.

Euge or someone of similar recognition and standing.

The problem with Crappers was who the f*** was he. Half a dozen posts on an anonymous forum.

My steps look linear but they aren't.

You'd need to do steps 2 & 3 with the addition of your social step prior to getting the ok from the committee to run.

If you wait To pass the hurdle to run you won't have time to campaign.

I'd happily volunteer for someone the ilk of Euge to run.

Thing is ground swell would make the board nervous and they have the ability to veto the nom so there is also the potential it could take a couple of years to be allowed to run.

They have basically entrenched an unaccountable clique from this point onward.

Okay but what if an independent candidate spent the whole season raising a profile at games and on social media, gathering support from more than a thousand supporters as well as beloved club identities and all the while promising to represent the members and resist the influence of the boys club, corporate interests, the AFL, and social justice warriors. But then the club recognises the overwhelming support this candidate is receiving, and so when an incumbent retires, they invite this candidate to join the board to fill the casual vacancy. Do we then turn on this candidate as he/she is no longer independent?

On-field success is not the only key to loyalty. North Melbourne (38,485) sit 15th on the ladder with just three wins but have added 1400 members since the outbreak. Club chief Ben Amarfio said he budgeted for a 40 per cent membership shortfall that never eventuated.

That North's sponsors, led by Mazda and the Spirit of Tasmania, have also remained loyal has meant the Kangaroos have not been forced to draw upon the AFL's assistance fund. In fact it has been the bigger clubs, more heavily reliant on big attendances, which have been harder hit in terms of financial expectations.

"We've learned what we sort of already knew," said Amarfio. "Club membership is not transactional it has much more to do with identity communication and clearly expanded content has become an even bigger priority."

Kudos to the board and admin. Keeping a strong bond with the members has been hugely important - seems like Crappers is probably the only North supporters there is to ask for a refund - but retaining the sponsors has been a massive piece of work.

That we have yet to tap the assistance fund is huge.

We're still debt free.
