I can understand that perspective from a supporter, but when you are running a multi-million dollar organisation in a multi-billion industry, you need to maintain your social licence to operate and that includes being committed to various social programs outside the core area of kicking the football.

You may not always agree with the relevant programs or certain aspects of them, but the Board would be considered negligent to not have them.

I also love the working class background of the team, but also that we have always been ambitious to be successful.

That is, why have a lot of time for the President because she had the ambition to go and sign Clarkson.

I would dispute that the club has always been ambitious to be successful. There's a difference between a desire to win and having a primary goal of winning.

Plenty of decisions have been made on staying afloat amongst other things, which I get, but those decisions do not have a primary goal of being successful on field. Just my 2c but a primary ambition to be successful didn't exist until Sonia took the main chair (maybe since Ron Casey).

What they have done is always be innovative compared to the competition.

Even if that were him - if I spat on a member of the constabulary and 10 days later I was shot by the constabulary when I appeared to have been disarmed, that would not diminish the culpability of the shooter.

I agree with the statement and I also get where you are coming from but the reason they made it is partly to publicly support their players (including past players all the way back to Jimmy and Phil K) and partly cos its expected from sponsors. Its been done for years, usually by every club in the comp.

Its expected that clubs do corporate virtue signalling and honestly its probably better than the alternatives as far as society goes. Can you imagine what it'd be like if Trumpo ran the AFL.
