yeah, I was kind of pointing out that there's more to it than just points against. The fact that we lost a game and the opposition only kicked 55 points makes a big difference to our points against.

Not having a go at you mate. Just being a bit flippant actually. There are that many statistics these days that it is nigh on impossible to make head nor tail of all of them when viewed in conjunction with one another.

I was having a few beers on the weekend with a former player, who is still very good friends with the leadership group at North.

He isnt surprised at all by the performance of the backline. He thinks Tarrant is the best defender in the comp and also believes Thompson could go another 2 years, with his genuine will to win every contest.

The thing I'm loving about Scotty's season is that he has taken the stupid niggling frees out of his game. Hasn't lost the niggle, but is just playing so smart this year.

This shocks me, is it based on totals? If it is it's understandable because our games would have had fewer center bounces than other teams.

A win loss % would be of more interest.
Yeah, based on totals. And agree, the game of water polo throws out stats. That said, Crows played in some pretty horrendous conditions this weekend been. Don't know where to get differential stats from.

There’s been 8 games since then. The pull of that outlier is diminishing.

Clearance and contested possession differentials are a better gauge but as you say are harder to find unless you do them by hand. Last time I saw someone post them a few weeks ago we were middle of the pack for clearance differentials while down the bottom for totals.

Quick excel from footywire stats:
Rk CL-For CL-Against CL %
1 Dockers 36.2 31.6 114.6%
2 Bulldogs 37.3 34.3 108.7%
3 Demons 40.6 38.1 106.6%
4 Swans 38.8 36.8 105.4%
5 Magpies 36.9 35.3 104.5%
6 Hawks 36.3 35.3 102.8%
7 Eagles 37.4 36.4 102.7%
8 Blues 37.9 37.3 101.6%
9 Giants 37.6 37.2 101.1%
10 Suns 39.3 39.1 100.5%
11 Lions 36 36.1 99.7%
12 Kangaroos 35.9 36.2 99.2%
13 Power 41.6 42.4 98.1%
14 Crows 37.9 38.8 97.7%
15 Bombers 33.7 35.4 95.2%
16 Tigers 33.6 36.2 92.8%
17 Saints 30.8 35 88.0%
18 Cats 36.3 42.2 86.0%

Surprising stats, don't think it means much if use of ball from clearance is poor.

Head nor tail?

Oh I would say exactly 50%.
