Should be “Tough fought game where the boys dig deep, give 110%, stick to the structures and play the way we want to play” instead. Rolls off the tongue
The line
“They know how to play the game”
Have never understood why it’s not changed to
“We know how to play the game”
Surely it’s we?
All correct.Different versions are sung with ‘we’ and ‘they’. Pretty sure players sing ‘we’.
I’ve always wondered about the “see the barrackers are shouting” but, shouldn’t that be “hear”?
We aren’t Carlton! All the premierships are paid for

"We are Geelong, the greatest team of all"“See the Bombers fly up to win the Premiership flag”
“We’re the team that never lets you down”
“North Melbourne will be premiers, just you wait and see”
“We’ll never stop, till the flag is ours for the taking”
Relax.
All of us singing so yes us supportersWho is "we"? The supporters?
Been done before in the 80's and in coincided with one of our most unsuccessful periods in history.
The original lyrics were brought back before 1990 and we broke the drought.
If we manage to win this week, we are the undisputed most successful club in VFL/AFL history. Equal most flags, most Wins overall, most seasons finishing top.
What's there to change?
Its only a song Dansa. I love to sing it after a victory. But it is after all only a song. I'm not sentimental about these things. And I dont see what the song has to do with us being successful. Some clubs with crappy songs have been successful too. We have changed our magpie emblem over the years, and our jumper. Why not one word in the song?
Saying that, I dont feel strongly either way, and I look forward to singing it at the G at about 5.00 on Saturday.
As you say the song has nothing to do with us being successful or unsuccessful ... So why would we change it? I thought the OP was hinting that it is somehow the line in the song was tempting a jinx?
I don't think it's the best song of all the clubs, but it is our song.
Don't we want to sing the same song that players and supporters have sung after every win since 1906!
I can afford them plus endodontist and periodontist fees. No cost is too much to avoid a toothless grin above my Magpies scarf.I can afford root canals these days.
It is, it's just that they singers got the lyrics wrong when they recorded the old songs years ago.The line

Maybe that's what happened. It is, it's just that they singers got the lyrics wrong when they recorded the old songs years ago.
