No Change

A part of me is hoping Kreuzer is a late change and we put him in cotton wool for next year.

He's played more games than any first year ruck in recent times and deserves a rest.

Kreuz hasn't predominantly played in the ruck though and he doesn't appear to be struggling either.

Keep him in!

I disagree.
Russell is playing as a defensive half forward, and generally gets the opposition play HB maker every week.

While he doesn't flog them, he competes, and limits the run of guys like Kennelly (how many runs did he have out of our defence vs Swans ;)).

When assessing Russ, who are you comparing him to?

Who is the "in-form" HFF in the Ants who Russ should make way for?

When I look at Russ, I compare him to his own output last year.....and he is doing very well.

He has become a target across half forward, when we clearly don't have one, and has helped set up loads of goals with his defensive pressure across HF......not to mention his play on after taking a grab to mids running past.

He is averaging 13 possies and 5 marks a game, along with 4 tackles.

His goal kicking has been woeful, but 2 goals 12, could become 10 goals 4 without too much work.

I think if he can straighten up his goal kicking, and kicking in general he could be very useful to us as a HFF. Strong hands, good defensive game...........

While not dominant by any stretch.........certainly not "nothing" to justify his selection, and he is getting better each year.

Again.......who is going to do his job better ATM?

Good post BB,

Bagging JR seems to be an enjoyable past-time on this board, he has definately improved this year.

His ordinary treatment by previous coaching both in positioning and time on the pine slowed his development and compromised his confidence.

He has certainly has deserved to keep his spot this year and should be encouraged rather than suffer constant derision.

The MC have honoured his work ethic and discipline to team play and apart from the odd error, decision under pressure and missed shot at goal (like every other footballer who has played under 50 games) and he will keep improving.

Sure he hasnt lived up to the expectation of fans for a 9 pick but that has nothing to do with JR!!

5. If Saddington is rubbish and will be delisted at season's end and there isnt much between him and Austin, the logical decision would be to play Austin. But there isn't, therefore your assessment of either Austin or Saddington must be dead wrong.
Well, we'll know which of us is right in October then.

Anyone else think the 3 year contract for Hammer might have been a little premature, GC17 not withstanding? I'm a huge fan but I would have liked to see a touch more advancement by now - at any level. Am I being an unrealistic goose?

I'd like to see Kreuzer playing for the rest of the season. Good Development for him as we play some good sides in the next 3 weeks.

Am I being an unrealistic goose?

He looked very good this pre-season, putting in some good efforts againt better rucks.

Last week he did something which I hadn't seen him do well, which was present around the ground.

Took a few grabs and got a few touches. It shows he is starting to think like an AFL footballer.

The rest will come. He had only played a couple of years of AFL before being drafted so still very raw......to be competing with any competence at this level is remarkable.

I think he will be fine, but the three years ensures if GC 17 want him, they'll have to cough up some of their first round picks.:thumbsu:

Any one of our young midfielders.
Such as?
What.......Blackwell......Pfeiffer (remember I read your other thread).......Anderson.......?
Name one guy out of the team who Russ is keeping out........who has actually deserved the spot.

(he has never had one game over 20 possessions in almost 50 games of footy- must be some kind of record), there can be no justification in leaving him in a side with a youth policy.
Other than he is young? :o
So here it is Whipp......it comes down to your profound lack of understanding of his game. You are expecting him to rack up 20+ possies a game........in a HFF possie. Have you ever noticed Russ go into the C Sq in other than a tagging role?
No? Gee, maybe he ISN'T a massive ball winner...........clearly no room in the team for him then.

Still, the MC keep picking him........who are you to question right? I mean, that was your arguement with Saddo. :o

I've seen plenty of Russell play. And I continually see him shirk contests and drop in and out of the game. With his experience, that shouldn't happen. I used the example of his run of less than 20 possession games merely to illustrate the point. The fact is, name one game in which Jordan was even in our best players. Bottom line is, there isnt one. And given the number of chances he has had, and his level of natural talent, that is simply unaccpetable.

I have already told you why the MC keep pickinghim and will not repeat myself for your benefit. If you cant understand, I'm afraid there is nothing more I can say.

I forget which round, but the come from behind win vs Port earlier this year. He was clearly in our best. Only Gibbs, Judd and Murph produced 4 Q efforts, but Russ was inpirational across HF and was pivotal in getting us that win, which has really set up our season.
He was fantastic.

As for "shirking contests".........."that goes to credibility of the witness your honour".
Nuff said.

........and the name of the player who's form demands he is picked ahead of Russ is.........

[sound of crickets]

.........case closed Whipp.;)

Sorry to burst your bubble BB but Jordan Russell only played well in the last quarter that day. He cost us two goals directly from terrible handpasses earlier that day as well so he was lucky not to have cost us the game in the end....

I've already said it doesnt matter. Anyone who will come into the side and actually develop and play like he wants to keep his spot. Russell isn't doing that.

the blues have had a great year and jordan russel has been a part of that, he has improved alot this year. we have had no chf forward all year and he has provided and good lead up option across half forward, who else is going to replace him in this role. yeah we have no one hartlett cant get a kick when he plays. so maybe we should be applauding his effort, he's one of our best tacklers as well. the main negative is his kicking though, its shocking if he can improve in this area he will make it i reckon.

Although I disagree with Snapper about Saddington (I think he's finished) he is totally right about Jordan Russell .. He's an very ordinary dud of the highest order, whom I think is only getting games on the basis he's a very high draft pick, and the club perhaps is giving him games to push up his trade value :D

What.......I can just pick anyone?

Cool.......so.....you want Ackland in ahead of Russ.

Wow, on your own there whipp.

See.......when you type "anyone" it just gets a little silly.
Given your inability.......again......not to produce the name of "anyone" to take Russ spot, I assume that you have come to the same conclusion I have.

There is no-one, that is either ready to play (i.e. rookies) or hasn't already had a go and shown less at senior level than Russ (Harts and Jake), that deserves that spot.

Unless you can point me to the gem I've clearly missed playing for the Ants.

Bring back Teague?
