If you look at how the stage of the game when he took that mark, had he gone back and kicked the goal, it would have been massive.

I would love to have our players miked up like in the cricket and ask them wtf were you thinking when you did what you did!

In the Showdown I just didnt see our players run into space or present themselves when a player ran down the wing, is this our gameplan or are our players just bloody lazy!

i think we are using players predominately in roles they are not naturally aligned to..
for example... pets is an at the body type player... this is always going to be most effective against the outside runners, but we use him under the drop of the ball to lock it in...which in my opinion is less effective because it exposes us to his kick..

Thommo is another, his one saving grace is his ability to get in the way... his disposal has a history of being horrible...yet he gets the nod time and time again, but for mine is now purely depth when all other options are exhausted...

this week is the week to give Rutten a chance to rest, no ressies, just keep him on ice for the big units like Patton, Cloke, Hawkins & Brown

Handball was the right option but he went the wrong one. Gave it to Eddie who had to turn with it under pressure - he had Wright running alongside him who could have walked into an open goal or, if he got closed down by a defender, given another handball over the top to Eddie who would've been by himself by that stage.
Fair enough - I was at ground level and looked to me like had a decent shot on goal - happy to stand corrected.

As you say - still the wrong decision

You're right - he did have a decent shot on goal. It's as if someone has had a word to him about getting teammates involved (he hasn't always been a model of selflessness around goals especially) and he's gone too far the other way.

his one saving grace is his heavy tackling... i think this is most useful to limit the oppositions outside runners
his job should be to hunt and nail these runners...
montagna, ray etc - this week
No.

Almost all his tackles were in the last quarter so obviously made no difference.

He was basically a statistical donut to 3/4 time, notwithstanding he crapped his pants to turn the momentum of the match.

His much vaunted pressure/tackling is such an overrated joke. Just watch him…he only has one effort in him, then can only jog as he's exhausted.

He will never he able to hunt the runners cos he cannot run himself. No way he can play on outside players for more than 2 mins.

His only hope as an AFL player with his size, fitness, and lack of a footy brain is as a BP, and even then he'd be 5th in line.

Depends on the injury situation but I really can't see CEY getting a game this week. Yes, he had 28 touches on the weekend, but Lyons/Grigg/et al have had to consistently pump on those numbers before even getting a sniff of an AFL game.

I have said this before, Every time there is a Center Bounce, after a Goal. Whack Pets in the Middle
Let him crash in, NOT Dangerfield.

Pets should be Tutored by Betts, in where to go on the field, when the Ball
is in our F/Line

fair assessment...
i'm not saying he should play on the runners at all... I'm saying he needs to pick off what ever bone tries to come though his path from the defensive side of the contest.

all I know is Martin may have been the first crow all year to react to a player getting hammered. Would almost like to see him in as a straight swap for Pets on those grounds alone. Might actually have an impact if he's allowed to play in the areas Petrenko is allowed to.

would love to see CEY come in too, but I'm not sure who I'd take out at this stage.

Agreed. When Porps got corkied, Martin gave it back to the big guy in spades. Would like to see more of this.

I think we can have 2. We have 2 on the LTI list.
VB and Henderson are both eligible for the LTI list. Even if they haven't been put on it yet, it's just a matter of filling in a form and faxing it to AFL House. Takes all of 5 min (probably 10 if they have to walk down to the medical rooms to get the Doctor's signature).

I have always had a soft spot for Pets. I have seen him at SANFL look a level above everyone else. He is our best attacker of the man with the ball. His attack on the player is brutal. A trait we need in our team. He has the ability to win a game off his boot, like we saw against Norf last year. But he isnt consistant and doesnt get enough of the ball. He also tends to go to ground too easy.
But maybe he has had enough chances and his game last week was pathetic.

Kicking the winning goal and winning the game off your own boot might technically be the same thing, but in reality, they're not. :D

I hope he's hanging around Betts at training like a bad smell, learning as much as he possibly can about the offensive side of being a small forward. We definitely need more players who play with his level of intensity, but you when you pick up the stat lines that Petrenko does, the touches you do have better have Rioli like influence, and he's not even close to that.

They are already on the LTI list Vader.

Wasn't sure whether they had or hadn't been. If they weren't, then putting them on it is a mere formality. The main point is that there is no significant impediment to us upgrading both Cameron & Battersby, if that's what the powers that be decide to do.

I rate Saints a lesser team then GWS and GCS simply because of the talent these two teams have, so to lose on Sunday would have us ranked as the second worst team in the comp. :(
We'd have to be pretty damn awful to be worse than Carlton & Brisbane. Melbourne though remain a standout as the worst team in the competition.

Yeah Sydney had injuries too, Tippett, Goodes, Bird, Reid and a defender whose name escapes me. Hawthorn have a number of guys out.

Good systems cope
Our team last week was missing 6x best 22 players. We thenlost it's 2nd best midfielder (Thompson) at quarter time, with Kerridge & Grigg following later. Dangerfield played on, but was clearly amongst the walking wounded.

No other team is missing anywhere close to that many best 22 players - and no team would be capable of performing anywhere near it's best with so many key players MIA.

Carlton is heartbreaking for their supporters, their good players are too old and will NOT be around for their next flag tilt and their young players have not shown anything.

Losing Gibbs may be a blessing in disguise for them.

Brisbane I am not sure of their list and the quality on it, they have unfortunately taken a hit last pre-draft when they lost a few players to the go-home factor.

I am an emotional supporter and this is what I have been trying to cling too after the debacle of the first three rounds, that there is plenty of upside for us.

A team like Carlton is in free-fall, that is pain and suffering.

I just want us to play an almost full strength team against the Power in a showdown later in the year, I still believe we can beat them, but we lack depth in our list should we cop injuries which we have.

Injuries are a mitigating factor though, not an excuse. If we were genuinely unable to match it with our opponents, then "missing players" might be a relevant factor. That is clearly not the case, given that our 2nd & 3rd quarters have been as good as, if not better than, what our opposition were producing at the time. What's killing us is our horrible starts in the 1st quarter and our team's mental & physical disintegration late in the game, leading to some truly horrible last quarter capitulations.

Our first quarter failures are down to Sando's coaching & game plan, pure & simple. I have no idea what is causing the capitulations, but it's sure as hell not due to our missing players.

Agree with you, I would upgrade both, play both and pick CEY . Battersby and Ellis Yolmen on the half back flank to give us some pace, free up Brodie Smith and put Cameron in the forward line. That's my wish list won't happen but lets get some leg speed into the team.

I went to the recent showdown and had a beautiful view which unfortunately is not captured clearly on TV.

Our forward players remained stagnant and never ran into spaces or provide leads for our mids, compared to Port where players which were presenting themselves at the true CHF (ie middle) when the ball was being moved down the wing.

Im just stunned as to WTF is going on at the moment, it cannot be fitness because this took place throughout the match.

Then we tried using Betts as the sole forward and moving everyone out, which I dont think is a good strategy as Betts was recruited as the perfect small forward to grab the crumbs not THE key forward.

It will be interesting to see how Port travel, having lost Monfries for over a month and possibly a couple of others.

Out of curiosity who are the 6 players and who goes out for them?

I'm assuming Van Berlo, Tex, Otten, Lynch, B. Crouch and Henderson.

And out: Petrenko, Pods, Kerridge, M. Crouch, Reilly and Hartigan??
