Preview No Changes vs Saints

As long as Petrenko is out, and neither Porps or Martin come back in, I'm happy.

The fact is that the team we put out there on Saturday is actually pretty close to the best 22 we have available at the moment. So if we're going to turn it around, it won't be at the selection table.

In fact, it's quite worrying that I cam away from Saturday's game thinking that no individual player actually played badly, except Petrenko. Our problems are structural/coaching based, whatever changes we do make will be shuffling the deck chairs. In those circumstances, we may as well play the kids so they at least get used to the tempo of AFL footy.

I genuinely believe McKernan make a significant structural difference as posted before.

At times Sat, Jenkins was in ruck and Pods was leading up - who then does he kick to. Betts and Petrenko. If they were going to play like that then surely Osborne presents as a better option than Petrenko.

With McKernan back, either Pods or Jenkins can lead up and the other can stay deep - will make a diff IMO.

We basically have not had McKernan for 2 games through injury - love him or hate him he is very important to our structure right now

I don't care how we were going to play, I am a better option than Petrenko. At least I will back myself to go back and nail a goal from 25 out straight in front.

Three weeks ago I would've flamed the heck out of that comment. But you know what, you're dead right. The season is gone, so we may as well do it properly and end some overdue careers while we're at it. :thumbsu:

We've played 3 of last years top 7.
Its far from over, but the crap we've served up cannot continue.

This is exactly it, our issues go beyond an individual level and instead are on the team level is where we're falling down in terms of overall structure, execution of basic skills and decision making. We're hunting the footy alright, but there's just no system when we do have the footy, which is sapping confidence and means when the opposition step up, we just cannot go with them.

While we're at at…despite his rebound Shaw is a disaster waiting to happen by foot which offsets all his positives as a defender. Has height, pace, athleticism, penetrating yet inaccurate kick. Best position going forward could be wing or lead up 3rd tall forward.

Jenkins looks far more useful pushing up the ground to provide an option on the wing (similar to Lynch). We desperately need this and I'd keep him pushing further from goal.

McKernan is the opposite. Looks far better deep forward or in ruck, a true 2R/forward option unlike Jenkins.

Petrenko…please let's finally end this rubbish. It's an embarrassment to the selectors. Back to SANFL on the HBF/BP and if you cannot become the new Stiffy then forget it.

Correct on all points especially the bold bit.

Surely those getting paid mega bucks have the intelligence to understand that this is not and will not work. Time for them to upgrade Cameron or give Atkins a chance, I could care less if either one is not quite ready. Time to do something other than the tried and failed, tried and failed..........

This stupid romance with Petrenko has gone on long enough and if it goes on once more it will only validate that we have dumb incompetent fools as coaches.

Why don't we use Danger off half back. Would allow him to use his speed to advantage which isn't currently happening and allow him to run forward at the ball instead of getting smashed why he is in close. We badly need outside run forward and Danger would be able to expose taggers for speed if he is on the outside. We have plenty of inside mids who can extract the ball so we wouldn't miss him too much at centre bounces. At the moment when he plays forward he doesn't seem to be able to get into the game and we need Danger in the game if we are to win many matches this year.

That's frightening skippy. We were saying that in 2010/2011 (play danger off hbf).

I've not got much left to say at the moment. But it feels like a tough year ahead. We need to learn something from it is the key.

do we have a defensive general on field, the man behind the play calling the shots?
and if so who is it?

do we defend the ball when we attack with it in hand?
or is this a foreign concept for the crows?

do we have a loud prick who can read the play better?

Petrenko's asset is his tackling, get him behind the ball if he's gonna stay in the side..
recast the moustache... send luke brown forward...see if he can get on the end of it and kick a goal or two.

Send to the SANFL to play back lines because atm Jaensch and Laird (and very likely Battersby) are >>>>>> Petrenko.

I have been a career supporter of Rutten even early when no-one knew a position the forward may play and called him slow

However, even though the last few years he has been a slow started ...he really looks to be laboring over the ground \\

Other clubs have identified that and are playing thru trucks opponents ......he may not last the season out

Be Careful in what you say about the Truck .;) To many Truck Lovers on this Forum They can't see his Mobility

As much as we'd all like Pets out of the side, if Thompson, Grigg and Kerridge are all forced out through injury, we'd probably have to keep him in just for sheer lack of available options. Would like to see CEY, Lyons and maybe Battersby come in this week for the injured trio. What's a pity is players like Shaw going backwards at a rate of knots, meaning it's harder than ever for us to cover all those injured - an ever-expanding list at the moment. Thought we'd done the right thing in letting Vince go, but no-one could foresee VB, Crouch, Hendo and now the three above all being out at one time. Doesn't matter who we bring in really this week, we're going to struggle big-time. The only other one I'd consider is McKernan who has performed well under the roof at Etihad a few times, though I'd keep Pods and JJ for now, so not sure if anyone else could go out. *Is it time to think outside the square and go for these more mobile type of talls rather than Sauce. It didn't hurt the Bombers last night, they were thrashed in the hit outs, but had Daniher, Hooker & co almost playing as followers and became play makers as the game wore on. Tough on Sauce, but maybe worth a try???

if they are I won't be getting out of bed Sunday

Bob Crouch says it ain't fitness = does this mean there is a problem?

the last line
"It was good to get the chance and hopefully next time I can get the win."

2 changes i would make is to be within 10 points at quarter time if trailing and find a way to win no matter how ugly just to get some confidence back.

Article on the AFL Website says that the Crows expect Thompson, Grigg and Kerridge to be fit....... less changes than some people are hoping??

Still would like Out: Petrenko, Reilly and Thompson (no harm in resting an older body than pushing through), In: McKernan/Johnston, CEY & Lyons.....

But on the AFC write up of the SANFL, CEY was hardly mentioned, whilst they salivated over Martin. What I expect to see, Out: M. Crouch. In: B. Martin.......

Agree with this. If we are going to lose by 30-60 points each week is rather do it with kids in the side to get them up to speed/50games ASAP.

This is exactly why he played on. Because he didn't have the stomach for the set shot.

Malcolm Blight hated players like this.

If you watch the way he took the mark and he played on from a worse angle from where he would have kicked it from his mark.

That one decision sucked all the momentum and the game then began drifting away from us.
