Preview No Changes vs Saints

Id have Grigg out before Kedge but id say the rest would be right and it makes our side LOOK significantly stronger.

Out of curiosity who are the 6 players and who goes out for them?

I'm assuming Van Berlo, Tex, Otten, Lynch, B. Crouch and Henderson.

And out: Petrenko, Pods, Kerridge, M. Crouch, Reilly and Hartigan??

So I'm assuming...

Henderson will replace Reilly on the half back flank.
Walker will replace J-Pod
Van Berlo will replace Kerridge
Otten to replace Hartigan
Lynch to replace Petrenko
Brother for brother

Now - I think Reilly will stay in and Henderson will replace jeansch
Kerridge will stay in the side and vB won't be back until next season
And I think Grigg will swap places with crouch Jn

We beat the Saints and Port lose to Brisbane and all of a sudden our season feels a lot better. That would have us 1 3 and Port 2 2. Not a huge difference.

Can't actually see Port losing. But it's possible without Wingard and Monfries.

Good point. As long as we ignore the other 16 teams in the comp. Benchmarking against port has got us to where we are today. Not interested in the club winning flags. Good for you triggy.

Article on the AFL Website says that the Crows expect Thompson, Grigg and Kerridge to be fit....... less changes than some people are hoping??

Still would like Out: Petrenko, Reilly and Thompson (no harm in resting an older body than pushing through), In: McKernan/Johnston, CEY & Lyons.....

But on the AFC write up of the SANFL, CEY was hardly mentioned, whilst they salivated over Martin. What I expect to see, Out: M. Crouch. In: B. Martin.......

cey a certainty. Afc don't want any of the excitement of his debut taken away mid week. They need another out of the blue good news story to finish the week. cey's debut will be it.

Those are the 6 "best 22" players who are missing. Not sure who misses out. Pets, Crouch & Hartigan are definitely amongst them. Probably Kerridge as well.

Pods & Reilly would probably hold their positions, though the JJ vs JPod debate would be an interesting one - JPod is the better forward, but JJ provides ruck relief for Jacobs. At the start of the season I would have said that Jaensch would have been one of those to make way, but his excellent form thus far means that Mackay would be more likely to be omitted if the decision were made right now.

So, the swaps (that I would make) are...
VB <--> Kerridge
Lynch <--> Petrenko
Otten <--> Hartigan
B. Crouch <--> M. Crouch
Henderson <--> Mackay
Tex <--> JPod or JJ

It's possible that Tex may actually replace a small, rather than another tall, given how under-sized our forward line was last week.

As for the changes I expect or would like to see this weekend...
Pets <--> Lynch (if fit)
Mackay <--> CEY

Cameron to replace Pets if Lynch is not deemed fit enough to play AFL just yet.

Other changes are subject to Thommo, Grigg & Kerridge passing their fitness tests.

** I'm in no hurry to see Lyons selected and I don't honestly understand why he's so massively overrated by many on this board. Guess we'll just have to add him to the list of players that "Vader has written off 2", with the rest of the board catching up to me in 2 years time when the shine wears off the "new toy" (as they now have with players like LJ, Smack & Petrenko).

You must be watching AFL on the same TV you have watched those SANFL games. We have an entire team of spuds, unless you can see something very different.

your gloating on this topic is unbecoming.

No way I'd drop kerridge for van Berlo.

It's only been 3 games but Kerridge is looking like a regular player.

Grigg & crouch Jn will be best 22 by mid season if they continue as they are.

So, 3 different players will need to come out of the side. And they may not be under performing player but players who don't have the ability to compete with the top teams.

You were conspicuous in your absence when Lewie kicked 3 against Geelong on the 'toughest road trip in footy'. Just because Sando and yourself are impatient and poor judges of potential doesn't make your arrogant musings remotely correct. Sando has a lot to answer for with his rubbish game plan pushing all our forwards constantly up the ground, idiotic forward coach appointment, and pathetic tendency to blame youngsters for our losses, yoyoing them in and out of the side and not giving them any faith or consistency. He could learn a lot from that guy down the road.

That's more like the old Vader!

Can I have a go?

I would like to declare the following players will never make it;

Siggins, Atkins, Knight, Osborn, Cameron, Battersby, Spina and Kelly (all the new Rookies plus players drafted 40+). History shows that less than 20% of these groups of players (excluding father/son picks) will play 50 games. Sure, you will miss a few (Roooorrrry) but you can still tell everyone else what a great judge you are when naming all the ones you have correctly assessed from Canberra.

Even better if you can write players off without ever seeing them play, a particular skill that you possess Vader.

Can you give me the stats on how many of the players you assured us all would be delisted last year that are still on our list and have played this year? These are back up players (Martin, Petrenko, LJ) and I agree that it would be better if we had 40 elite players on our list.

Correct me if I am wrong but Petrenko is a rookie upgrade that you declared would never play 50 games of AFL? (72 games), LJ despite being a first round draft pick failed to get a single game at Sydney and appears to fit into the group that are good SANFL players but not quite good enough for AFL and McKernan was also picked up at the end of the second round of the draft so hardly surprising that he is not quite Nic Nat quality.

Just because you declared these three players "spuds" before anyone else doesn't make you King of the World, just a rather pathetic little smartarse. I prefer to see how players cope over a period of time with their chances at AFL level before jumping to conclusions.

/facepalm.

Can't we all just imagine that Vader begins every post with "in my opinion" and be done with all this ridiculous back and forth?

It's ****ing tedious.

I would love to see how a team could cover us when we have Tex, Pods and JJ all in the one side.

I think Pods and JJ will excel really well when Tex returns as he will demand the best defender hands down. Remember Pods played in a forward line that had Hawkins and Johnson in it, he was always going to do well getting the third best defender.

Don't forget Jaensch and Walker!

But yes the others are looking like good calls
I never wrote Walker off. Always said he had talent, just needed to improve his work rate. That opinion has been completely verified.

I definitely have written off Jaensch in the past. So far he is making a fool of me this season. Remains to be seen if he can sustain his current good form.

I was on holiday at the time, with no internet access. Haven't seen the game and have no desire to, given the final result.

As a general rule I don't comment on specifics if I haven't seen the game in question.

You really might want to actually try reading my posts occasionally if you're going to bag them.

Pretty much all of my posts on the topic of delistings was prefaced with comments along the lines of "subject to the outcome of FA, trade week & how deep the club wanted to go in the draft (noting the Tiprat penalties had an obvious influence in this area)". I stated repeatedly that many players worthy of delisting would survive for those reasons. But hey, you've never let the facts get in the way of a good trolling.

I very rarely condemn a player without seeing them at AFL level. That said, I do draw conclusions when a player either fails to perform at SANFL level or fails to gain AFL selection in the face of seemingly exceptional SANFL form.

You won't find any posts by me making declarations about the likes of Siggins & co, because I don't have sufficient information to make a valid opinion about them yet.

I would suggest watching the game right upto and including the 4th quarter and turn it off about 5 minutes in when we hit the front, then turn it off, make sure you do it bloody quickly. The vision from that point onwards is disturbing and may cause offence and deserves an R rating for brutality.

I don't think you can really blame people for wanting LJ in the side when the Crows forward line was stinking it up and he'd been kicking bags of goals in the SANFL.

Also who around here ever rated McKernan?

Petrenko had a purple patch at the start of 2012 and went back to stinking so I'd say your on the money with that one.

As for Petrenko... yes I was wrong in stating that he wouldn't get to 50 games. However, all of the criticisms I leveled at his game have been completely validated and most posters here now hold the same opinion that I formed several years ago. Took them time to get there, but once the shine came off the toy they came around eventually.

That said, Pets had already played around 30 games by the time I started to be critical of him. I still don't understand why it took so long for the shine to wear off him (both from a supporters & selection view) given that his flaws have been so obvious for so long.

Nowhere have I defended the Sando 2014 game plan. Far from it. So far his performance this year has been diabolical.

However, that's not exactly relevant when discussing the flaws in LJ's game. The game plan influences the delivery he receives (or doesn't). It doesn't influences LJ's lack of work ethic.
