Seems to me more like losing to a team that is better than us rather than choking in finals. Don't worry Port, maybe next year you can reach finals again and start all over.

Maybe one or two of you will be able to spot the difference rather than just stand there yelling like a fool, but I doubt it.

Wasnt it last year you won TEN games in a row before the finals, then lost your first final....and claimed it wasnt a choke? hmmm.

Werent you 2 games and 60% clear of 2nd spot in about Round 17? Winning each week by 60-100 points? Talk of invincibility? Every opposition coach for about 6 weeks straight says your the best team ever? Talk of Crowbots? 4 goals up at home with a weeks extra break, with 50,000 people behind you, kicking with a nice breeze in the third quarter and you lost. hmmm.

You may not have "choked", but you still stuffed the best two chances youve EVER had to make a GF/win a flag in the last two years. They are facts you cannot refute. You also cannot refute that you have drastically underacheived given your position at about Round 15.

Is falling in a complete heap of mediocrity on the eve of the finals this year better than falling in a heap during the finals last year? Id say its equal.

In 2002 and 2003, Port were playing for a home preliminary final. They lost this privilege and thus had to travel for their prelims. I have no qualms with losing the prelims away. Adelaide in 2005, lost at home to St Kilda, and thus lost home ground advantage for their prelim and thus had to travel to Perth. Were Adelaide expected to make the Grand Final this year? In my heart of course I would say yes. Were we expected to? No, we weren't. Were we expected to in Rd 22? No, we weren't. In that lies the answer.

I am not saying that we shouldn't have made the GF, because after the loss to WC, I still thought we were a monty. But the simple fact is that we were not good enough. We were beaten by the better midfield. A team with limited injuries, one whom had controversy at the beginning of the year, and not the end.

Holy crap I've already said that last years FIRST ROUND was a choke. The match at subi had nothing to do with choking. Adelaide losing last years prelim is about as much of a choke as Port losing in last years semi. Yeah that's right. It wasn't.

The choking tag is thrown around WAAAAAAAAAY too much. And usually only by Port fans desparate to get rid of the tag, especially if its to their cross town rivals.

I disagree. At the start of the year you were one of the favourites. After the PS Cup you were one of the favourites. Mid-season you were favourite. After Round 15 you were favourite. In Round 22 you were expected to make the GF yes.

The AFC don't choke in finals then how about this disturbing pattern?

Adelaide vs Essendon 1993 prelim final - 7 goals up at half time & their fans are starting to que up for grand final tickets they lost that game to Essendon.

Adelaide vs Collingwood 2002 prelim final - AFC are a goal in front of Collinwood at half time & still lose.

Adelaide vs West Coast 2006 prelim final - AFC are 22 points up at half time kicking with a handy breeze at home & yet still manage to lose.

Adelaide vs West coast 2005 prelim final - AFC are behind by a goal at half time & manage to lose. Yet they had just beaten the weagles at Subiaco only 2 weeks prior to that game.

What a load of crap, if you didn't expect to beat Melbourne in 2002 after finishing 3rd you are a piss weak supporter.
What I don't understand is all your supporters are saying West Coast were favourites yet they had a week's less break, against a 50k home crowd and were down by 20 odd points at half time.
Yet last year wasn't a choke although you were in exactly the same situation as West Coast this year after finishing top.
Why can't you and your supporters understand the whole concept, the Crows would have to be the least knowledgable supporters in Australia.

It's a fair point, but how do you explain that Sydney won last year after losing the QF and West Coast made it this year after losing the QF. According to you they should have been able to win anywhere against anyone and if they can't, then you can't be a contender.

This what I can't comprehend, this year West Coast were favourites because they finished top although they lost their first final and had to play away.
Yet last year wasn't a choke for you guys against West Coast because it was away and top has nothing to do with it.
Using this that logic Port's 02 & 03 weren't chokes as both our Prelims were away, and don't use the bull**** excuse that West Coast were the better side as has been used earlier in this thread as Brisbane over that period are hailed as the best team ever.
Ha our Semi last year a choke? We went from 8th to 5th in last years finals, you guys choked from 1st to 4th. We only finished one spot lower.

Mate, 99% of the time I agree in what you say. You are a respectable person. I agree after PS cup were one of the 3 or 4 favourites. After our run of victories (against a majority of mediocre clubs) we were favourite, we were after all murdering clubs. However, given the run we had leading into the finals, with injuries and losses, I can't see how we were expected to make the Grand Final. Many crows supporters including myself thought it still possible, and in some places a given. But if you go back through the threads, so many people, not only posters on BF, but in the media, had completely written us off. Many Adelaide supporters on here had written us off completely as well. We were supposed to bomb out after the semi finals (KG had us down for a QF exit as you will recall) after losing to the rampaging Fremantle. For most of the year we were favourites, no problems, but once it came to Rd 22, much faith had been lost in us, so much that we moved from unbackable favourites at $2.15 or something to outside $7. Now tell me that we were expected to make the GF.

What we did in 1997 totally erased what happened in 1993. We did exactly the same thing came back from 7 goals down to grab a prelim final victory, but as SO TYPICAL FOR PORT SUPPORTERS PRETEND CERTAIN THINGS DIDNT HAPPEN.

I guess you all arent smart enough to realise that over time Port will again find itself losing finals at some point down the track. Its just a pathetic vicious cycle and then you will claim that the AFC supporters are acting in despiration just as we are doing for your mob now.

Or you can do the usual Port tatic and pretend that it's never gunna happen again. There's that gunna word again.
