I could be in the minority, and I understand on the surface it’s a corporate decision, but it looks a bit petty from Freo. Why change something now that’s been going on since day dot?

I don’t have a big issue with it.

Because Glendening is a campaigner and represents nothing about Freo. If you are going to have a combined medal it needs to be named after someone who represents both clubs or a WA footy legend with no affiliation to either.

But it hasn't been going since day dot. Clive Waterhouse doesn't have one because it only started in 2001.

I always regarded it as something that came from that era of people on the football commission wanting to pat themselves on the back for changing things and giving things new names. Ross Glendinning Medal for best player in the Derby, John Worsfold medal for the best player in the WAFL pre-season competition, WAFL being called Westar Rules, Joondalup Falcons, introducing Peel Thunder into the WAFL etc.

The medal kind of lost credibility when Glendinning over rode the voting system taking it off Ashley Sampi and giving it to Michael Gardener/

And who could forget Chris Judd over Josh Carr!

And Glendinning lecturing the crowd that the Fremantle booing was "unsavoury", but the next year when Carr actually won it at an Eagles home game he got booed he managed to refrain from commenting.

He was a chairman of selectors for us...

... yeh, **** it. He's a campaigner.

I think this is a great move by the club scrap it and we can create a bigger rivalry when west coast and the wa media have a huge melt over it . Then we establish our own PAV medal for our home derby presented by you guessed it mr Pavlich and voted by Pav of course then we will see how the other mob up th road like it

I wouldn't be surprised if its just a pitch to get a new sponsor by the end of the week. Its a big marketing opportunity - first Derby at the new Stadium.

We're not upset when a medal named after a famous West Aussie, who represented both clubs, is scrapped but we would kill for a Brownlow or Norm Smith.

I know Ross and fwiw although he works for the Eagles he is a North Melbourne supporter.
Personally I'm not unhappy that both the medal and trophy have been scrapped.

I am so pleased to see the end of this medal. Hasleby is upset on PR and I can understand that he values his medals, so I suppose he's entitled to his opinion. As a Freo fan I never liked the name and it lost a lot of credibility the day the fawning judges awarded it to Chris Judd. It was at the height of Juddmania and it stank to high heaven. Whenever a Freo player won it I just thought "stick that, we got your little medal". If the Freo players who won it value it then that's fine but personally I never saw the need for a dominant Freo player to get a medal named after an inaugural eagle.
