Channel 10 must be the biggest bunch of hacks (apart from Helen Kapalos!;) ). Channel 9 just reported that it looked like Kingsley 'twinged' something at training tonight but trained on, and is expected to play this week.

Kingsley set for return

Sportal

After three straight defeats, Geelong is looking forward to adding leadership and experience to its team for Friday night's crunch match against Melbourne at the MCG.

The Cats will have just four players sidelined by injury this weekend and full-forward Kent Kingsley (hamstring) will definitely return, replacing youngster Brent Prismall who broke his arm in his senior debut against Sydney last week.

But the biggest inclusion to the senior team could be veteran forward Peter Riccardi, who played his first match for the season in the VFL last week after a hamstring injury.

"He's a bit of a waste playing in the VFL," coach Mark Thompson said of Riccardi, who has played 282 AFL matches since his debut with Geelong in 1992.

"He really dominated (in the VFL) and looked like a really classy player. So I'm glad he's back playing. He's a real good chance to play as well."

The Cats are weighing up whether to select key forward Henry Playfair and important defender Tom Harley, while talented small forward Steve Johnson is in contention for senior selection after being dropped.

Regardless, they believe they will benefit from having more experienced players in the team for the clash against the Demons.

"Five weeks in a row we've actually put the youngest team out," reflected Thompson about Geelong's predicament over the opening five rounds of the season.

"This week we're going to improve out age and experience a bit better and confidence will grow from that, too.

"I'm not (sure) whether the Western Bulldogs game (a one-point loss at Telstra Dome in round four) took a lot more out of our boys … out of both teams really because we both didn't play that well on the weekend."

While Harley will more than likely play his first game of the season in the VFL, Johnson won't automatically return to the seniors after dominating in the reserves.

"He kicked some goals. We're still not certain whether he's done enough to get back in the team," Thompson said of Johnson.

"The hardest thing we're trying to judge now is how do we measure VFL form because the gap has certainly got bigger and bigger between the AFL and VFL.

"Shannon Byrnes went back and got 32 touches. Steve Johnson went back and kicked five goals.

"We're just trying to analyse how we rate that performance in the VFL."

With Riccardi almost certain to play on Friday night, Thompson is confident he can provide a similar pinch-hitting role of the bench that has been so successful in recent years.

"I can see him doing it straight away. Good players who have played a long time know exactly how to play. Peter's a very good player for us. He'll come back in and I'm pretty sure he'll get the ball straight away.

"He's a good user of the ball and he knows how to play. And he's just going to add enormous leadership and we really have been lacking that."

Kingsley didn't look good at all! From what I saw on the TV I REALLY REALLY don't think he should be playing this week! They better not bring him back if his not ready! Whats the bet they will play him and he will get injured and miss 3 weeks because of it. I'm not happy. :( They better be 100% sure he is right to go!!!!!!

damnit!...Kent better not have re-injured his hammy

if theres any doubt he shouldnt be risked because hammies are nasty injury to manage...look at David Johnson last yr

well when you have had to put up with hacks like gardiner and longernan for the last 3 weeks, KINGSLEY IS A GOD! hahaha GO KENTY BABY!!

Anyway, I'm not sure we ought to rely on Ten for footy news. It's never been great.
Channel 10 footy is crap. I still can't get over that idiot boundary rider calling Prismall - Prisnell. I just wanted to know what was going on with him and they didn't say at all, I had to find out the next day for what had happened to him.
