No holiday for Trent
Andrew Montesi

For injured Crow Trent Hentschel, much of the summer holiday period will be spent under the roof of Adelaide’s training facility.

“From about two weeks ago, I’ve been in the club every day onwards,” Hentschel said. “So hopefully I’ll get some holidays during the year or something!”

Having had an operation to repair the lateral side of his knee two months ago, the promising forward is still waiting to have the required ACL reconstruction. However, according to club doctors his knee is recovering as expected.

“Everything is on track,” Hentschel said. “The doctors said when I had my first op that it would be three months until the next one, and that’s now in about four weeks so everything is pretty much going to plan.

“I’m really just looking forward to getting in and getting the reconstruction done, then getting back running and on the bike.”

With Hentschel still only in the early stages of his expected 15-month recovery period, he has still managed to remain upbeat.

“I’m not feeling too bad (about the situation),” he said. “I’m still on crutches, and still not driving or anything, so it’s a bit frustrating. Everyone around here (at the club) has been real good and supportive, so things have been ok.”

In a positive for Hentschel, he will not be spending the long days of painstaking rehabilitation alone. He has been able to call upon the support of Crows ruckman Rhett Biglands, who is also in the early stages of recovering from a knee reconstruction.

“It’s been good, because he’s in the pool at the same time and he’s also in the weights room (with me). It’s pretty embarrassing looking at what he’s lifting compared to me, but it’s good to have him round and have someone to talk to.”

Great to see that Trent is remaining upbeat about his situation :thumbsu: Can't wait to see him up and moving after his knee reco.

Poor bugger.:(

He was just starting to turn his great potential into reality. The performance curve was very much on the up and up prior to that injury.

Let's just hope that when he comes back that he is physically capable of reproducing that form again. :thumbsu:

Best of luck to Rowdy with his recovery. I hope its a speedy and successful one :thumbsu:

In these situations mindset is really important and he seems to be in the right frame of mind which is excellent news IMHO.

Good luck to Trent. It will take at least 2 years before he is any where near AFL standard though. I also doubt he will return to full potential. Best of luck to him though.

It's got to be daunting for him. It sounds like the attitude is right, and if he is planning to catch biglands in the bench press by the time he comes back he will be a big bastard!

Without having to run around or play footy or anything like that, he should spend all his time in the gym and come back ********ING HUGE MATE. I expect to see a towering figure n 2008, ready to take big grabs, kick huge goals, shatter bones and break skulls.

One of my favourite players. Too be honest, I still feel abit ill everytime I think about it.

I don't feel ill, I just feel sad and angry about it.

We have been waiting forever to have a gun tall forward; Trent was just about there, and then this happens.

I still hope like hell he can return to the player who was, and improve even more, but it will be tough.

Yes he's one of my favourite players too. Its such a shame this happened to him as he was just starting to turn into the player we dreamed he would be. Good luck Rowdy, I have a lot of faith that your determination will be a big factor in you coming back bigger and better when you do eventually return in the tri colours.

well said.
my main worry is that his freakish ability to get the ball to boot so quick and thread those snap shots will be diminished - i don't know of any player his size who could get the ball to boot so rapidly...but if he turns into a gorilla-type FF, what a menace he'll be for a long time yet. fingers crossed!

Thats something to keep an eye out for IMHO. What impact will the injury have on his freakish ability to play like a small and cause headaches for his opponent?! And if the injury takes away what undoubtedly is his biggest weapon, can he them practically rebuild his game to become this big, strong, gorilla type Key position player? The answer to those 2 questions will pretty much shape his football future.
