Anyone else here play NL Holdem?

I started playing around 4 months ago and am absolutely obsessed with it (hence my user name 'Big Slick').

I meet up with a group of mates every week or so for matches, and am just interested to know if anyone else on these boards plays regularly?

Yeah I play at the Crown tournaments and occasionally get a few friends together on a Friday and play sit and go challenges.
Not a fan of Omaha or any other games but limit or no limit holdem are enough of a challenge.
The Melbourne Championships actually start tomorrow.

By the way how highly do you rate big slick?
I'm not a huge fan of it unless its suited. Promises the world but often doesn't deliver.

Yep love the game. Also love channel Tens World Poker Championship Tour that they screen on Saturday nights. Dont have a regular game at the moment, but a mate has just built his own table and bought some chips and we'll be having regulars soon.

problem is, I will be the only one in the game who isn't a copper

Love WPT. One criticism though is that the Poms have a large breasted dealer together with a roof cam. That's all WPT needs to go to the next level. Gus is good to watch.

I'd love to get into it. I guess it's never too late.

Gus is a sensational player. My candidates in a dream final table of 6 would be Hansen, Lindgren, Lederer, Flack, Moneymaker, Greenstein, Corkins, Hellmuth, Negreanu and Ivey.

Would be a great final table.

By the way it's fairly easy to get into. There are plenty of tournaments and sit and go challenges at Crown.

Yeah I play and also love to watch it on TV. Haven't made my way to Crown yet. I have a group of about 10 mates who get together at least once a week to play. I'm also addicted to Ulitimate Bet.

I loved seeing Gus up against Paul dot com Phillips at Bellagio. Tino Lechich (friend of a friend) finished 5th and is from Melbourne.

Goes without saying that Shana is good value.

And Evelyn Ng has a groovy site. She was on tv a few weeks ago and came 2nd to the Cyclone/Clonie.

I love playing the game (playing on the net at the moment) and I love watching it on TV.

It is not legalised at Perth's Burswood Casino, but if and when it is legalised I'll be the first one asking when they start playing tournaments.

Anyone played Caribbean Stud Poker before. I did for the first time last weekend and came away with a small windfall :D

Great game.

We watch it whenever it's on tv, the Fox8 ones are the best.

Gus Hansen, Daniel Negraneu, John Juanda are the best i reckon along with that crazy guy who pulls his hood over his head and ties it up (what's his name?!) :D

We often amongst each other too... and went and watched them play in the Las Vegas room at crown.
Gotta enter in a sit-go now! :p

There starting a series of them at Crown from the 6th. There is enough guys interested from work to run 2 tables which should be a bit of fun.

Those blokes are fantastic to watch ... especially Hansen and Flack with their ultra aggressive play and Ivey with his amazingly controlled and calculated game.

I am yet to play at crown. A couple of my mates have played in the 4/8 limit games but limit doesnt interest me at all.

I don't know a whole lot about the range of No Limit tournaments that Crown offer but I am interested in having a crack at one of the Sunday tournies. ($65 buy in I think).

If you could post some thoughts on the Crown no limit tournaments you've been in that'd be great (in terms of numbers of ppl who play, how fast blinds go up, how many people get prize money etc).

Tournaments can range from $35 to $75 depending on what you play.
The Thursday comp is huge with sometimes between 150 and 200 players.
Sunday can range from 100 to 160 players.

The blinds go up every 20 mins to keep the game moving and there are levels displayed.

Prize money varies a fair bit depending on what you play. Best to contact Crown.

I've never actually played at Crown although I am getting interested in doing so in the near future, probably after Uni exams. Does everyone in the tournament start with the same chip count, and is that provided by the house, or do you have to supply your own money to start things off along with the buy - in?

I played in a sit n go challenge tonight with 9 colleagues from work and for $35 you get a half hour tuition (we had 2 new players) half an hour limit holdem and and 1 hour no limit holdem.
We decided that we would divvy back the prize money which was $20 from every $35 so it only cost $15 each. On top of that you get 2 free drinks each , a five dollar voucher and we also got a few little prizes. I actually left with more money than I started with. We also went well over time and there was no pressure to hurry things up.

Now getting back to your original question. It depends on the tournament you play but everyone gets the same chip value normally $1,500 provided by Crown. Some tournaments have a re-buy feature where if you lose your money early you can cough up another $50 the will give you your $1,500 chips again.

If you can get a few friends (10) together I recommend the sit n go challenge as the best way to learn the game.

Hold 'em Poker quickly became the card game of choice at my cricket club last season once it was introduced, overtaking Blackjack. Quite a site to see three tables of Poker going in our clubrooms, with some guys playing on more than one table!!!

Great fun - I've played a bit on the Net as well, just in free games at PokerStars.Net!! Also enjoy watching WPT on the weekends, but am starting to get sick of the Hollywood Home Games!!

The only form of gambling (apart from raffles that actually provide a benefit to a worthwhile organisation) that I like.

Have loved the game for ages. I only ever play on the computer, and don't want to risk my money so I just play for fun. I'm also too much of a loose cannon that my money would dissipate relatively quickly.

WPT on Channel 10 is a must watch for me every week. The best spectator sport.

ive been watching WPT on ten for the last couple of months thinking that it was awesome and would love to get involved now i know im not the only one!!!

How good is it? great game that i am really wanting to get involved in. What days are these tounaments usually played at Crown and wherabouts? i dont think ive seen poker tables in Crown...

As for WPT is that NL Texas Holdem what they play?

As for fave players that Phil Ivey is a gun he is young at least and beats most of the older vets. That Devil Fish is a Wkr though.

Someone let me know how it all works

Thanks, also where online is the best place to get some practice in?
