The MCC is considering stopping people from going onto the MCG after the game for kick to kick anymore. Something to do with soaring insurance premiums. This is just another kick in the guts for footy fans:mad: Although I have never played kick to kick after a game, many other people do. Why should they miss out?

It's probably creating more trouble than they care to deal with.

The last game I went to, I was on the ground for 10 minutes, and in that
short period of time, my ball got stolen three times (one which nearly resulted
in a fight); I got hit in the back twice by kicks, I had someone take a speccie
off my leg and I probably collided with no less than five other people. These things
aren't all that big of a deal to me, but it's pretty dangerous for little kids. Plus they
are easy targets for theft.

Yes standing on the ground is fun, especially watching the little kids getting barrelled by torpedeos make the experience even more amusing.

just one of the little things that the AFL is doing to take the game further and further away from it's tradtitions without anybody noticing.

I have always maintained one of the major reasons that AFL is stilll a strong sport, is because it is able to recognize it's past greats, and past traditions.

Look at Rugby League, no teenagers today would know of any greats who played during the 50's and 60's.

But slowly the AFL is trying to turn the game into a game with no tradition.

My best memory of kicking on the ground was one day at Waverley when there was the traditional race to the centre after the 2nd siren. These 2 kids were sprinting full pelt for it and ran straight into each other. I kid you not, it was the best clash I ever saw at the ground!! They had to bring the ambulance out I think because one of them was knocked out cold.

But it's a real bummer that they're going to stop it. Collo claimed people would be allowed on the ground after Hawthorn v Essendon at Colonial (gee, that really makes up for all those supporters missing out) but I haven't heard anything more about it. Is that still happening?

It's not an AFL decision, it's an MCC's decision. Although they haven't made it yet.

I can see the signs going up Enter At Own Risk

Better than banning it altogether

No....I think you misunderstood.....

I think Collo said supporters would be allowed into the grond not onto the ground after the Essendon v Hawthorn match.

It is quite funny after a game having a kick to kick. Even better when you kick the ball and it hits an opposition teams fan, or grabbing kids' footys and booting them 40 metres in the opposite direction. Or flattening little 10 year olds who are in your way, not too rough of course. Those were the days.
I surely hope the MCC don't ban it because it is a tradition. One of the few that are left.

Are they only doing this to the MCG? Cause I don't really care unless they do the same for the Gabba :p

Last match at the GABBA had the best race to the middle that I have ever seen! It was pretty much a tie, but there was a huge dogpile in the middle...

It would be such a shame if they stopped this. If people are worries about getting hurt, then why would you go on there in the first place. The people who go down there have to see that they could be in some danger.

So true in EVERY way!!!!

The reason they might be stopping it is because of idiot people who get hit in the face by a ball and then make a complaint to the MCC.

Come on, if people don't want to get hit in the head with balls, or hip and shouldered by a huge big brainless yobbo, then DON'T GO ON THE GROUND!!!!!!!

I think that definately "Enter at your own risk" signs should be put up (if allowed). There's no way the MCC should be responsible for people who can't use their brains. Also, the idea of seperating the Big guys and the kids is good too. But it shouldn't be stopped.

I know that even when i was younger, i used to refuse to go out on the ground because i didn't like being smashed in the nose by a wet heavy Sherrin kicked by the same brainless yobbo i mentioned above. (we used to walk over the footbridge to that little oval on the left and kick there, where we COULD actually kick the ball to each other and have fun without getting killed....)

cheers.

Definately Agree Joshhem!

My Brother was right there in the middle of it!!!:D

It has become part of the game now to bolt into the middle and is something that we all look forward to at the end of the game!
