You could argue Fremantle don't miss Pavlich much at all. In 2008 Fremantle won 2 of the 3 games he missed, which is a fair result, given they only managed 5 wins for the season. If Carlton want to be taken seriously, they need to win this weekend. Fremantle's youngsters are tiring and there are a number of senior players returning from injury or struggling with form. There's no excuses for the Blues.
Fair enough, but he is obviously their best player and captain etc. Maybe it can be more of a mental positive for our boys...either way a player of his quality not lining up against us is a positive one way or another.

Are you intentionally trying to outdo C_P as the most negative carlton poster on BF?

Ratts has been coaching for 1 and a half years, with one of (if not THE) youngest lists in the AFL. You mentioned Geelong - and where were they (And Bomber Thompson) a few years back? In the exact same position as us and fielding the exact same critisisms.

Remember where we have come from... and dont let yourself get sucked into the hype. We are still a way off from being serious flag contenders.

A top 8 spot is a pass mark. The finals will be the bonus but honestly im not expecting too much - just a taste for a few players who have yet to experience it.

And while we are on Geelong and Ablett... didnt he have an auspicious start to his AFL career? Much like Yarran... GIVE HIM TIME!! By the way Yarran is neither small, nor is he a forward pocket. He has been drafted as a HFF with the potential to play midfield.
WELL SAID :thumbsu::thumbsu::thumbsu::thumbsu::thumbsu:

If we don't beat Freo without Pavlich, the spotlight must be put directly onto Ratten. Its his job to set the game plan and get the players minds right.

If Yarran gets a start I hope he shows us why he was picked ahead of Rich. He is playing at home and has no exuse.

And FFS, will someone please protect Murph from that sniper Schammer
Holy shit I just lost it :D

So a coach has no influence on his teams mind set? Righteo
So a small forward picked at 6 can't run, chase and want the ball? Righteo
So Geelong( with 56wins from 59 games), who protect Ablett have it all wrong.Righteo

And Bently.................. FFS
Both the coach and players have a responsibility for being right on the day. The coach comes up with the game plan, but the players are professional athletes who should really be self motivated. These guys are well paid and shouldn't have a self motivation problem. To blame the coach for the player's self motivation is a cop out. What the coach has to get right is that the players respect and listen to him.

Yes, Yarran should chase etc, and there's no doubt Rich is performing better at this stage - Rich is also performing better than Watts, Natanui (despite Natanui's 4th qte last week). To judge Yarran as a bad draft pick at this stage is premature - he could very easily be more important to Carlton than Rich would be in a couple of years time. It's a bit rich to expect a high draft pick to come in a dominant straight off. What you're looking for is their impact on the team over the long term, and young players (especially 18) more often than not need time to develop.

Geelong do protect Ablett, we should be protecting Judd and we don't. We shouldn't be focusing on Murphy as our prime mover - he's not - Judd is.

Gotta say; don't hope for someone to have a bad game but do not want to see Bentley get another game for CFC - don't see the point in persevering with this type of hack player when we leave out other players we should be playing to show their competence i.e. Yarran, Anderson and even Browne (though he had a shocker against ESS).
We would have been better off playing Hadley than Bentley this week if it had to be done for an older/bigger body.
Carrazzo will take Haselby but Sandliands will be our biggest concern...again. He'll obviously win the ruck against our guys but we need to rove off his hitouts like every other club does and turn that into our advantage.
Hopefully JR has learnt how to dispose of the ball in the 2's & Johnson can kick the ball as he was recruited for - I think this actually may be a good pick for added efficiency from the backline.

Hopefully we play attacking footy this w/end (agree with the earlier comment about the defensive B/S that Ratt's is always playing with our forward line - open it up to actually play attacking forwards across all 6 positions).
Weather will be perfect for footy so there we'll be no excuses if we don't turn up to play.

Freo will be even more revved up without Pavlovavitch, their midfield and running will play and Essendon type game and the similar run and run and run game they played against us last time.

We should be more on how much Fevola is gonna stuff up again this week. He's lost it. His head is more into playing poker at Crown than playing decent football for Carlton.

Why don't you take that crap to the bay and crap over Carlton there amongst friends
Every time I see your name I anticipate similar stuff. I am no Fev fan but come on!

Fev did look pretty spot on the money today, considering he had surgery only days before! Seemed to be kicking/handeling the ball well, have a feeling he is in for a bag tomorrow.

There are no excuses.

We win, we're 7th, strong %.

We lose, we're 9th, out by a game.

We haven't lost 3 in a row since since round 1,2 & 3 last year.
That's it, simple math. We have the best run home to make the finals, and if we lose, our teams self-belief will melt like toilet paper in a toilet bowl, especially amongst our 100+ game crew. They must make a statement against Freo, or it will be a statement in reverse about how deluded out list is about their own ability.

And I will more than likely get banned from this board FOR SPEAKING THE TRUTH IF WE LOSE!

It really depends on how we lose - sometimes the other team are too good no matter how hard you try. Being a game out of the 8 will hurt our chances, but as you say we will still have a good run home, and a good percentage.

The boys know if they put in the effort they will win most games, and a hard fought loss today won't mean they chuck in the towel because they find themselves a whole 1 game behind dominating teams such as the Bombers & Port.

Perhaps supporters like you might remember to keep the faith if we lose today - we could still see ourselves in the 8 next week even if this happens.

I daresay we may very well dangle on the edge of the 8 for the remainder of the year - one week a game out, the next week we're in. This is the sort of thing you'd expect from an inconsistant side aiming for their first finals in a long time, and if we do want to fall on the right side of the fence come the completion of Round 22, it'll require the faith and support from us all...

The ability of our entire list does not come down to simply one game. Anyone who thinks a team can seriously be judged simply by winning or losing any one particular game during the H&A season has no idea.

Winning games gets you into the finals. Honorable losses are meaningless unless to smash that 'honourable' loss witha thumping win next time around.

It's looking VERY UGLY right now over in Subie.

As I have said numerous times, our 100+ gamers are some of the luckiest players in the league to get so many games, and they are really, really, really killing our development.

I hate to say it but we're becoming the new Richmond. Crap recruiting, top draft pics getting let down, a core of 'veterans' who are quite terrible, and a coach who really doesn't now how to build a winning combination.

I guess it's 'next year' all over again...
