So two players decided they didn't want to play for North means "no players want to play for North." But Crameri, Carlyle, Ryder, Monfries et al didn't want to play for Essendon...

They're going to be down the bottom of the ladder for a while, they were going after two players in the best form they've been in while playing for clubs currently in prelims and Grand Finals, and they're a smaller club. Really isn't that outrageous or noteworthy. Port Adelaide recruited Paddy Ryder and Charlie Dixon and have looked no better for it. Seriously why is it shocking? Or an indictment?
Bad example. Dixon kicked 50 and ryder was AA ruckman. Yes we were average this year, but without those 2 we would have been a good deal worse.

I don't remember this thread when they got Dal Santo Higgins Waite in the last few years? What players would sign for a club at the bottom of their curve? I don't see any gun players flocking to Carlton right now?
Melbourne couldn't recruit a hooker in a brother will a wheelbarrow of cash a few years ago. Now in the last few years we have got Hibberd Vince Frost and are right in the mix for Lever. It's all swings and round abouts

North did miss a couple if targets this year, but in my lifetime they've not been a club prone to languishing at the bottom of the ladder. I expect some improvement next year.
I think it was just probability. Martin was always likely to stay, and we had the advantage Kelly is is pretty happy and needed to be pried out if the club, which didn't happen in the end.

They want North to relocate to Tasmania which is a sought after destination everyone is moving to.
In all seriousness is this a potential factor? Especially when talking a 9 year contract as in the Josh Kelly scenario. If North offered me a 9 year contract I would be nervous that the potential of the AFL shunting them while I’m still in that contract never quite goes away.

When trying to lure players, what's one positive they can mention apart from cash? Can't think of any.
Inner city location? Doesn't separate them from a whole lot of clubs though.
It's always a lot harder to attract players when you're near the bottom of the ladder.

Facilities... one of the most overrated lures for most players.

The only time they've been a 'destination' team was in the 70s and 80s when they recruited guys from WA and SA... as did every other VFL side... who cares? They've won flags without it.
It's shocking and an indictment because of the amount of cash they threw at them. Both offers shouldn't have been refused but were. Kelly especially, 1.5 Mil to play for the club he supported as a lad, dad played for them and they still couldn't twist his arm.
