No room for Gamble?

Yep, Hawkins is injured, or more correctly is being managed to prevent a minor complaint becoming more serious. According to what I've heard he's got a 'hot spot' on the sole of one foot, something that's usually the precursor to a stress fracture.

With proper management he should avoid a serious injury, but unfortunately it also means he's out of action till it heals up.

Chapman won't be back this week but we should see Ablett back.

Ablett will take either Varcoe's or Prismals spot (although Pris is showing signs of improvement now and less nerves).

I think Milburn may be in trouble with that tackle and if he misses a week then we may see all of them stay in (Melbourne don't have much of a forward line ATM).

Gamble is the complete forward package IMO. His speed off the mark is great, good hands, great mark, accurate kick and plenty of X factor. He is also hard to matchup on at 188cm.

My only criticism of him is his kicking from outside 40m; he always seems to pass it off. I don't know if he has been instructed to do this or whether 40m is his limit but i'd like to see him back himself more often from further out.

Just indicative of where we are at the moment that poor Vegas isn't even guaranteed a spot! I love the way he goes about it, though. And one day he'll take mark of the year.

I have a feeling he'll play out the year and if anyone in our forward line is dropped, it'll be Lonners or Varcoe - though I cannot fault Lonners too much at the moment either, he is contributing pretty much every week and always has a dip.

Hard work being a selector!

They were saying on tv last night that they thought Prismall, someone else and Gamble would most likely miss when Ablett, Wodjinksi (sp?) and Chapman come back.

Now ill be honest i haven't caught every one of Geelong's games but against the Tiges and the doggies i think it was, Gamble was great. He and Lonergan play the run up, small forward role perfectly. Surely there would be room for him? He has a certain X factor that adds another dimension to your forward line..as scary as that is.

But i guess the problem is who misses? Your club have an awfully good list where these types would be in most club's best 22.

Just on the mention, I think he at Full Forward is a failed experiment. All we do if he plays there is bomb to the goal square without much reward at all.

I think we have been successful because we have so many avenues to goal that are a little different, Johnson, Mooney, Chapman, Stokes.. our small forwards are very good overhead and our midfield is very good at running down and jagging a few goals themselves.

I'm happy for Ottens to sneak down and offer a target during the course of play, but he fails when sitting in the goalsquare because we become too one dimensional.

How does this relate to Gamble?? Well, I think he only adds to the variety of players we have that are hard to match up on. He is quick on the lead and had a great leap. Last year we had Mooney and Nathe as our only two talls in the forward line at the business end of the year. I think Gamble holds his own in that position and probably gives a similar output that Nathan did at the same time last year.

Lonergan? I mean he kicks two to three a game, but then a lot of them are fairly cheap. I don't think dropping him from the side for the guys that have to come back in would hurt us very much. I think he'd be a bit more prone to go missing in the big games because he doesn't have as big variety to his game as 'Vegas'.

Personally, I find it a much bigger travesty for Gamble and Taylor to be dropped then Prismall. Those two are actually playing good footy, while Prismall has been quiet of late.
