The truth of the matter is he has often played first year draftees in pre season competitions Leon, Didak, Goldie, Daisy, Josh, Johnson and Dick just to name a few have all played round one of pre season cups and plenty more who are no longer with the club. Mick has always said he never looks at birth certificates and he plays guys when he thinks they're ready.

Dick didn't play in his first NAB cap game. Nor did Goldy. Thomas and Brown are the only ones since the 2004 draft class to have played in their first NAB cup game. Hardly recent history. Leon, Fraser, Johnson were from 2000, and Didak and Lonie played in the 2001 Nab cup.

Anyway, if (as suggested) the two youngsters are playing, then I will gladly admit I am wrong and I will be extremely pleased about it. We will find out in an hour.

You are right about Goldy but wide of the mark with Dick.

Fact 1. Brad Dick was taken at 44 in the '06 draft.

Fact 2. Brad Dick played against Nth Melbourne in round 1 of the 2007 NAB Cup, "....a highlight being Indigenous lad Brad Dick’s inaugural goal in senior football, a neat left foot snap opening his league account." (see Article written below by none other than Luke Mason).

I just hope people aren't disappointed when these boys don't meet the unrealistic expectations that many have for them here.

I haven't put any expectations on them. I just hope they get on the park so that they can get an early feel for football at the highest level as I would expect it would be good for their development.

Not Making much Difference:thumbsu:

lol wow.... you got me!!!

What's with all my posts being deleted anyway...... Considering Dave starts every single thread on this bloody board, I'm starting to feel like I'm going to need to learn a new language to keep up....
Stop taking pot shots (whish is what they are) and they wont get deleted

What are the chances of Beams and Sidebottom getting a game in our next match you think ?

I like many other would love to see these guys get a run in the next game.

Depends on how they go at Training

I would have loved to see these guys play but it was no real suprize. Maby MM thought they wern't ready ( bodywise) for the riggers of senoir footy yet or he just didn't want the team to go to AliceSprings. Either way the last thing we want is for these players to get injured and if their not ready their not ready. We will see them soon enough.

Why do you think this Dave??

I don't think their performances on the training track will have anything to do with whether or not they get a game next time.
It seems to me as though we would have done anything to NOT go to Alice Springs. We went into the game against the weagles with a near full strength line up, and with attitude to match.
I think it's pretty obvious that they will both get a run before the season starts, who knows when though? Maybe after (if) we bundled out? Maybe when we are playing closer to home? Maybe BEFORE we get bundled out and are forced to play on sub-standard fields?

I'd like to see them both on the park for our match at the Docklands. Close to home, AFL standard ground, in front of a crowd.

I agree with your call, Re: Alice Springs

I don't think we were keen to go up there to play a practice match with the heat and humidity. We much rathered win at all costs in Perth so we could avoid this situtation entirely.

I really don't think that would have been an issue. WCE fronted up with a very young and inexperinced side and midfield group. Priddis, Swift and Masten for much of the first half was the core of the midfield. Swift being a first year player, Masten second and Priddis 3rd. They are not going to have much of a better chance to get a run in the senior team against a more inexperinced and physically under-developed midfield.

I think it is a number of things. There are a number of more senior / fringe senior guys who we wanted to give a chance to proove there worth. Corrie, L Brown, Cook, Stanley, Cox, Johnson. As well as Dids and Heater who may have been rested had they played all of last year. On top of that it seems like we wanted to get the season started of with a bang, get the confidence up. Travel less and hit the ground running.

I think it may have simply been a case of not over exerting them.

They'd have been training in the searing heat of Melbourne, add to that a flight over to perth and they'd be completely knackered. I think Dawes can be considered in this category too.

They possibly were just completely stuffed and a trip to Perth was the last thing they needed. I'd be shocked if Beams and Sidebottom weren't playing against Richmond or Freo in Melbourne personally.

Good Point and That could be why Dawes looked very flat.

Plus we don't want any I injuries to the new kids

I agree, and if they play from R1 they'll be burnt out by the finals :D

Don't really by that - Look at Daisy 1st season he played 16 games and Remember he missed most of the final rounds with a Broken Collar-Bone? and he played well in the Finals

I'd say we might see a change or two to the side we play against Freo/Richmond - I think we went in with one tall too many. I'd say either Leigh Brown or Chris Dawes could find themselves on the outer.

Anthony Corrie could miss as well, so it's possible we might still get to see one of the new kids in the NAB Cup.

Agreed. I think we'll see two changes. Leigh Brown really struggled, and as you said, we were a tad top-heavy (though that's an advantage of the extended bench). And obviously Maxwell will miss.

So we could see Sidebottom and Beams come in, or possibly Goldsack to replace Maxy. Though it will depend on who we play.

So NAB cup games are included in Maxy's suspention?

Luckily, yes.

Goldsack should be his replacement.

Id love to see Caff, McCarthy, Rusty and Beamsy all in the side but i cant find many ppl to ommit.
