funny all the talk about exploiting new markets... bringing women and ethnic groups into the fold and what not and then not putting it on free to air lol. who has foxsports? white males sutherland you meathead, exactly the demographic who loathe all the changes. baby out with the bathwater

and how does he expect to build this "tribal afl style support" for city clubs without at least putting it free to air (not least to attract sponsors) while they first get established? sutherland is right up their with the biggest flogs getting about

I still don't hold out much hope for our test cricket future.

the argus report stated that test cricket needed to be made the top priority but of course the people who run CA just skated over that part of the review sacked a few coaches and selectors and patted themselves on the back.

The fish rots from the head and the people who are trying their best to kill tests in this country still have the most power in the game.

Perhaps when they have sent the game broke chasing 20/20 dollars we can get some real change and start the arduous task of rebuilding test cricket but who knows how much permanent damage will done to the game by that time.

The thing is, these franchises get the money, so in other words, the likes of eddie mcguire, as well as cricket australia, rather then the state teams getting the money.

You wont hear them say it, but CA needs the teams to be reliant on them, in order to maintain a balanced league.

Teams making thier own way will see a lop-sided draw (the reason for victorias success

It will be a huge success and crowds of over 60,000 will come to the MCG.

The Australian cricket team is on the nose.

People will be looking for something else.

The Big Bash will fill the void.

State teams don't exist now as they did in the traditional way, just look at south australia every year there's less and less south australians in their teams, Tasmanias been largely imports for a number of years now

You make this sound like a bad thing. The best 66 players should be playing in the shield for Australia's future. If that means there's not one SA born player in the SA team so be it. I disagree anyway however, because players from other states and other countries have always been a part of the shield. And it's why the Shield has always been strong. Bradman, Miller, Sobers, Richards. If anything we lost that for a bit in the 00's.

I can understand why they want 8 teams. So I can understand why they've done what they've done. However, they shat the bed 100% in Tasmania's case given no matter how huge of a success it is there will never be another team there. You could say that a bit about WA and SA too. And they've obviously completely lost their minds calling both Sydney and Melbourne teams uh Sydney and Melbourne. There's a lot of hyperbole coming out from CA re it, and there's a fair bit of hyperbole coming towards CA re it. At the end of the day it'll bring some good things and some bad things. As did the old BigBash. Tasmania signing Naved-ul-Hasan to a full contract so they could bring in another overseas player one such example. (although rather annoyingly I can't find the article for that)

You have to laugh at the animosity from Northern Tasmanians towards the Hurricanes. It's sad, I know, but was always going to happen. It goes along the lines of **** Hobart and their Hurricanes, let's go for Warnie's team. People aren't happy that a game or two was said to be played at York Park and magically now there's nothing. HH said they were going to do it so as to help unite the state - "We want to take the team around Tasmania so it is a team for all Tasmanians" - but obviously this was to just shut up northern Tasmanians. Disappointing really :thumbsd:

I'll be supporting the Hurricanes, but I'm in the minority up here. Would have much preferred they simply split state and T20 contracts to encourage specialist player movement, and continue to keep state names...

They purposely did everything they could to distance the 8 BBL teams from the 6 we already know. They weren't allowed to use colors historically connected with those cities/states and instead had to pick colors like teal and pink that just don't work.

Additionally the name couldn't be something connected with the area - it had to be something abstract (ie American)

They are trying to appeal to those that don't follow cricket:
Ben Coulson, the Executive Creative Director at George Patterson Y&R, found working on this campaign provided an opportunity to approach Cricket from a new and refreshing perspective.

“The new Big Bash League is cricket, but not like anything we have seen before. It’s a whole new League, played by entirely new teams in bright new colours, under lights and with entertainment. With this in mind, it was important that the campaign wasn’t traditional or expected. It needed to look and feel like our tag line, ‘a whole new ball game’.”

Spectacular action, intense rivalries and a booming soundtrack will ensure that cricket connects with a generation conditioned to fast-paced entertainment.

It is going to be too contrived and is going to disappoint everyone.

LOL, that's why they kept the league name, league sponsor, pretty much the same players, the same venues and the same duration.

They just changed the colours of the teams and added a couple. I'm amazed someone got paid to come up with it.

Yeah it's ridiculous.

I really don't want to support it, but I'll probably watch a bit to see Warne and Gayle.
