My theory is they lied because they didn't want to lose membership sales.

no doubt about that in my mind.

As if a specialist cant give a more accurate diagnosis... and if he cant you'd think an AFL club would have the resources to go for a second, 3rd or 4th opinion..

This was in The Age this afternoon...

No time frame on Brown's return: Wallace
May 1, 2007 - 3:25PM

Richmond coach Terry Wallace says he is unable to put a time frame on injured forward Nathan Brown's AFL return.

Brown continues to suffer soreness from a stress reaction in his leg and Wallace says the club is frustrated the injury is making little progress.

Wallace says specialists are unsure why the injury has not responded to treatment and cannot provide a definitive answer on why Brown continues to suffer setbacks in his rehabilitation.

Wallace says he doesn't have any plans that include Brown being available to play anytime soon.

Christ on a pogo stick:(

He should have just said "Nathan Brown wishes to announce his retirement"

Stop taking us for knobs plough. We know he's finished.

My theory is they lied because they didn't want to lose membership sales.

This is the obvious conspiracy - but do you think people would actually factor in Nathan Brown playing or not playing before they buy a membership?

I actually feel very sorry for the bloke, the day/day uncertainty and frustration must be killing him.

Well when they tell you it's only a twenty day injury you're suppose take their word for it aren't you?.

This thread is an embarrasment everyone of you saying we should get rid of him blah blah blah he has no heart ect are a disgrace your an embarrasment to the Richmond football club and frankly I';m embarrased you support the same club as me

:thumbsu:

The only ppl who should be embarrassed is the RFC for lying to their payed up supporters about his injury.

There is no conspiracy going on with Browny - what is in it for the club to deceive its members?

There have been murmours from sources saying Brown would definately be out this whole year with stress fractures before Round 1. This same source said 2-3 other things about our club before it happened and they all did. I'm certain the club has known Browny will not play all year since before Round 1.

Why would we do it, you ask.

Yes the clear reason is membership sales, the second is moral and attendance and most importantly - money.

They have said he'll be playing "in 2 weeks" 3-4 times now and each time we get a little less surprised he didn't come back. Now that he's out indfinately it comes as no surprise and we don't lose members.

From Nathan's perspective I am 100% supporting of him taking all of this year off, even if he is perfectly fit.

Why?

Because he is at our club for ONE reason. To play finals. He should and will not wear down his leg all season for no reason at all. What's an extra couple of wins? The only thing I believe from him lately is when he said he honestly wants to be around when this club starts playing finals and being a success. Due to missing 3 years now of football his body in general is very fresh and with a year off his leg will be strong. He said he intends to play a role until he is 33-34 years old in our forward line, and he definately wants to be there in 2011.

Why risk him when we're not contending for a flag? Every season from now on will cripple him a little more later in life. Use him sparingly. He is our matchwinner and Richmond have wrapped him up in cotton wool and put him in a time capsule and will release him when our premiership window opens... if age, and leg permits.

Horrific injury *shrudders*

I doubted his return the moment i saw the replay of the incident and rea;istically,so did everyone.

Oxx, I was on the fence 20 mts from browny that fatefull night and I knew immdiately we'd seen the last of nathan brown. I left at halftime absolutely gutted. Why couldn't it have been tivendale or gaspar? Shocking thing to say i know but browny's been the most skillful player we've had in 30 years and he was brutally cut down in his prime.

:(

Could it be possible that this is what TW has been told?

They know no better - this is unchartered territory.

He has been listed in all club injury updates as either "to asses" or "indefinite".

If they all knew that the year was over for him and its all a marketing/membership push - why would Browny have trained last week?

Why go through fake motions of training and lie to your teammates and club?

Wallace must be reading our posts on bigfooty.:D

Terry's Quote in an article:

“As he keeps having setbacks we keep having to stop his progress and start all over again. That makes it difficult. You can imagine how frustrating it is for Nathan. We keep having people from outside, like the media and supporters, being frustrated about our mixed messages but we’re getting mixed messages internally.”

If you don't have semi-regular activity on your bones change their chemistry making them weaker. Regardless of playing or not he really needs to maintain healthy activity, and I'm sure some light running will be done all year.

Voss played out his career with pain killers

Why cant Brownie?

Soft I reckon ....................

Cut his leg off and sit him in the forward pocket, would do better than Krakouer too

Every football club lies about their injury list and have always done so. Lying about injuries is as old as football itself.

I guess he should kick a few goals so Richmond can win an extra game or two this year. He'll only be in crippling pain for the rest of his life, but if he is the difference between 15th and 13th then load him up with pain killers!

Even if he can't walk when he's 50 I'm sure he can look back and say "I made Richmond finish 13th in 2007... otherwise they would have gone 15th.. man that makes me feel so good"

Ill bet my left knacker that Brownie never playes again :(

A lot of hyprocrites on this board.

When I posted a thread a couple of weeks back asking whether Brown was too much of a celebrity footballer to have the heart to get back to his best, I got slated.

The same supporters are on now on here slagging him off.
