I apoligise upfront for my first post being a negative but I'm going all out and what like to know how Fantasia has kept his job for so long, what has he achieved for the last five or so years really has been pretty ordinary- how can interstate clubs such as Collingwood identify SA talent smuggle them into the draft and them pick them up before Fantapants even realises they can kick a ball!!! [Rusling] really we should have a huge advantage in recognising SA talent and yes I realise we can't snaffle them all but far too many have crossed borders or gone down that dark and scarey road to swampville[ Alberton]. What is he and his team doing ?clearly this year indicates improvement was needed and although we will never know the true story, but did he go hell for leather to improve our list??????????

I have very unrealistic trade expectations because I expect our club to try and offload junk and move up the order in the draft standings where possible?

Those expectations and hopes are fine. It's just that someone has to be willing to take junk. If you were a North Melbourne supporter and i offered you Luke Jericho for a third rounder you'd tell me to get screwed!

West Coast just traded a 26 year old smack addict with two bung knees for an upgraded pick in the draft and my expectations are unrealistic

He is also a ruckmen (a hell of alot more valuable then a bloke who is 169 cm) and a former AA

For mine it's not the trading for a win.

We all know Skipworth is going to play a nothing part on our list and will most likely be delisted. If we were able (which by all accounts we were) to get ANY compensation for him, surely that's better than nothing. I mean FFS I would've accepted the last pick in the draft at 1:29 rather than delist him for absolutely nothing. Same RE: Jericho.

What a waste of the clubs money.
Well I don't know that. I am happy to keep Skippy on our list as he is a good backup. Who knows , he might get more game time and play an important party in our team. There is no point in trading for the sake of it. I hope he is not delisted.

Firstly, Rusling was taken at 23 in 2004. We only had one pick before that which was pick 8. Even with the benefit of hindsight I don't think there'd be many who'd say we should have picked Rusling at 8 so you might want to rethink your stance there. (Note: You might be interested to know that with the pick immediately after Rusling we took van Berlo. At this stage van Berlo looks a better player than Rusling). I don't mind Rusling at all, I'm not criticising him, but he wasn't worth pick 8.

Secondly, while I've been critical of our drafting in the past I have been very impressed with what we've achieved at the draft table over the last 2 years. Even before that we picked up a few beauties on our rookie list.

I'm happy to say Fantasia has earned his money the last few years.

Rutten, Johncock, Mattner, Bock, Douglas, Van Berlo, Maric, Vince, Thompson

I think he's done all right.

Hindsight is a beautiful thing.

Also I still prefer having Maric to having Rusling particularily with our current circumstances.

I think with the material he's had to work with he's done a pretty good job particularily in the last 2-3 years. We've only had one top 10 pick in 5 years yet people are constantly slagging him off because he's an easy target and never do people slag him off until they have hindsight.

Tell me did you know about Rusling before the draft? Did 14 other clubs?

Aside from that welcome aboard:thumbsu:

Actually as a supporter of another club I'd honestly be willing to take a punt on Jericho. Not on Skipworth however.

He's not a ruckman anymore regardless of what the Aints think. His body won't hold out a season of rucking in the AFL all but guaranteed. I agree with your sentiment however.

Still wish we'd pushed harder though. I Would've accepted Skipworth + 32 for 31 FFS

Yep I did open my mouth fairly wide but it's all this pent up excitement in regard to trade week and the fact that Fantasia talked it up as if we were recruiting someone special and once again nadda!
Did I know about Rusling no I didn't but thats not my job that's Fantasia's and given that Shaun Rehn was his coach at the time I would have expected him to have some info!!! Yes we have picked up some beauties which a couple of you named but for goodness sake of course we would have living in a two team football state with our own league to choose from, geez my mum could have done that!! Nah I'm off him...however if he picks up some goers in the psd or nd I'll forgive him just this once!!

That was your interpretation. All along Fantasia has said we wouldn't be a big player in trade week and any deals we may make would be small.

And besides that, everyone should know that 'special' players are not offered for trade. Unless a quality player announces a return home, which is generally well known before trade week, the only players on offer are fringe players, or those with other baggage. Look at all the players that were traded. Teams don't give away quality players for no reason. So, if anyone was expecting some special players to be traded then to be totally honest it was your own fault.

Anyway, welcome to the forum. :thumbsu:

Exactly ****, look at the big names that were traded this week -

Akermanis - Old, Wanted to leave for months
Everitt - Very Old
Gardiner - Leaving for Months
Tarrant - Closest thing to a 'star' traded. Ended up going for pick 8 + Medhurst. We could not afford that.
Polak - Unproven at AFL level.
McDougall - Unproven at AFL level
Solomon - Past it.

Tarrant is the closest thing to a sure thing match winner there and to get him we would of been looking at pick 14 + Meesen or Maric.

Who is this person who is 169cm. Skippy is 175cm,Jericho is 189cm.
So assuming it is Jericho you are comparing Gardiner to just ask Any Eagles supporters who they would prefer? A former AA is just that...former. He struggled to have any impact at WAFL level because of injury. For goodness sake don't begrudge the club for not taking on broken down hacks. Remember Wayne Carey? Injuries hindered his impact on the field when he was with the Crows and he was a former Preiership player and a former AA.

Whatever spin you want to put on it Jericho is a much more valuable trading commodity then Gardiner.

Go back and read my post carefully. I don't want anything to do with Gardiner. Von Douche was whinging about WCE picking up crappy draft picks for Gardiner and asking why we couldn't do the same for Skippy or Jericho and I was explaining why Gardiner is worth more on the trade market then either of those two players.

I suggest in future you read the whole thread before slagging off at other posters.

Well that was a fizzer of a week.

IMO the big victors were Collingwood who now have 2 top 10 picks, The Bullies for getting McDougall and Aker for very little and Sydney who gained Spider Everitt for pick 33.

Pretty well spot on jo172. Your club and mine were just going through the motions although I am hopeful that we can pick up Jordan Russell in PSD. I also think Freo did very well with Tarrant and Solomon and IMO will now be an even bigger threat for next year's premiership.

I agree they look good for the next year or two (If they can stay uninjured) but I think in the long term they're gonna regret letting pick 8 and 13 slip through their fingers.

Seems to remind me alot of the Carey deal, great if you win a premiership in the next two years, if you don't there's gonna be alot of bitching.

AGAIN????????

we did nothing last year, we did nothing this year.

gee I sure hope that tooth fairy brings us some leg speed in midfield and a goal kicking option.

Disappointing, isn't it :(

This is disgraceful. Hell, Eagles made the GF and they made some trades. Sydney lost it by a point and still managed to get better.

And lets not talk about Freo. Trade expert Robert Shaw strikes again. He just might have tipped the scales for Freo to be a legitimate contender and possibly the best team next year. They just got a LOT more potent. They added another match winning tall forward. Pavlich, Tarrant and Farmer in a forward line is DEADLY.

People think Solomon is washed up but I think he will bounce back. He is still a pretty good player and has some good years of footy left ahead of him. He slots in really nicely into that defence thats already very strong.

And what did they lose, a KPP that was going to walk anyway, a small forward thats not even in their best 22 and some draft picks that are over-rated anyway.

I think Fremantle and Bulldogs big winners for me here. Both got significantly better and didn't pay over the odds for it. I also think Richmond did well as well. Get a young KPP with great potential (and baggage) for downgrade in picks.

I think the trading department under Craig has been nothing short of ****house. Bring back Robert Shaw as the General Manager of Football Operations. At least the man can trade and trade VERY well.

Yes but Robert Shaw doesn't want to buy an egg coated house. :D

Freo will be scary next year, they weren't far away and they just got a lot better. Sydney will be clearly better next year.
we... well we won't have our our no.1 forward, our no.2 ruckman, and our club captain is slowing down at a rate of knots.

woo hoo go team! :thumbsu:

yeah you're right, of course the only players traded were the only ones on offer.

maybe we shouldn't have bothered to attend trade week, just read what was in the papers, and dialed up QVC and made a bid?

Fremantle lost their first round pick and Polak. They lost hands down stiffy18.

A forward line of tarrant, farmer and pavlich is also inconsistent as well.

So no one? Thanks. ;)

You need to stop living in fairyland with these trades btw. Sure hypothesize about it on here and maybe what could of been, but if you are going to try apply it to the real world you are not being very realistic.

I am happy we didn’t pay over the odds as we usually do with trades. Makes a change.

hey you're right, their playing stock aren't any better, and because there forward line is indisputably inconsistent (you said so yourself) we won't have to match up on them.

this will be great, they'll spoil themselves, and we generate more run from the back by operating with 3 extra loose men. can't wait to line up on them next year!

how could they have been so dumb? ;)
