Are you sure it wasn't that Peter Hudson was going so well on the beers that the said Chris Dawes was capable of kicking 100. He was a 2 grab mark that ran on train tracks.

I was shocked that Dawes played 120 games... thought it would've been about 40.

Still, a 30 goal per season young 2nd fiddle key forward was handy. Prior to injuries and being reinvented as a Leigh Brown type fwd/ruck he was alright.

His physical profile was just not suited to modern footy. Relatively short at 193cms, over 105kgs, and not a great athlete in general.

He was handy, but 100 goasls? 193 wasn't relatively short at the time.

100 goals is indicative of psilocybin more than beers IMO. Dawes wasn't quite Buddy or Fev.

It wasn't at the point in time, but I think in forecasting forward we were seeing bigger forwards pop up in that crop. The Hawkins, Kennedy, J. Riewoldt types were all an inch or so taller, and more athletic.

The Dawes hand injury was a killer. Kicked 30 goals in 2010 despite only debuting in round 11. Then kicked 14 goals in 6 games in 2011 before injury struck.

He was a great sidekick to Cloke.

I don't want this to be recruit a forward and then play him back, but he appears to have all the traits, (hard at the ball, good pack and mark) to turn into a good size back man, at least worth a crack pre-season

He has a pretty good standing vertical leap too.

I feel like he showed real signs. I am excited at the prospect of West and Howes, with Buller as a 2nd ruck/forward option, all in the same forward line! If they develop together then it would be very scary for oppo teams to try to cover!

The inability of either to do a whole lot when the ball hits the deck is the issue

Howes is only 4 mths older than West and has done well in a couple of games and the first 2 games he had 4 other talls up forward with and he scarcely got a look in. He looks better when he only has another tall up front with it seems to give him more space to move,some of us complained when he tried a high mark over Howe but I was pleased to see him try it.

He is reasonably good kick and he is good on the lead and at 19 going on 20 I hope he gets another contact 6 mths hardly seems long enough to judge him fairly.
