The extension seems pretty logical.

I can see him being trialed down back as well, along with McCarthy if he gets to us.

But the West/Howes/Buller forward structure does look very interesting!

I'd like to see him try defense, he seems to be quick with a good mark and a booming kick but can go missing in games, plus it would help his forward craft. Unless ur a star, having positional flexibility is a big plus.

Moore was moved into defence in hope of fixing his massive hammie issues at the time, which actually worked.

Every time he got thrown up forward during Buckley years when we were desperate he didn't set the world on fire either.

For a forward we underestimate the importance of the ‘craft’. Knowing when and where to run, reading the play further afield and having the confidence in your teammates further up the ground knowing how to deliver to where you’re moving to.

That takes time and good mentoring/coaching.

You just have to look at Gunston who isn’t athletic and just knows how to play the role effectively.

I value Checkers much more than many because of his forward IQ, mentoring and team play. His departure will increase the importance of McStay and Membrey.

If Noah Howes kicks 2 goals on debut, he will have a bettter goal per game average than Jesse White and Bobby Hill.

I still think of Howes as a project player who requires development prior to debut. The idea of him debuting is one that makes me smile. Cheesy made a comment on MSD night that he could play in 2025. The club were slow to resign Howes so 2026 is huge for him.

I think there has been a few people on here calling it for a while. Now with Reef potentially going down again we might not have a choice!

I didn’t see him play defence today in the VFL, when I turned it on he was forward again but by all reports it looked promising.

Just had some great traits down back. 8 marks, 10 intercept possessions, in the right spot most times and when he spoiled it, he made sure it cleared the hot spot.
Stepped up enormously when Reef went down early.

VERY encouraging signs down back today… and don’t we need it.
Has all the traits - marking, kicking, size, so wish we hadve made the switch sooner.
