Would have thought it a bit too late for change this season. Surely if we suffer another year of match day stagnation, then change will be forced upon the footy dept from above. My concern is who is it that will be able to recognise the need in the first place and then implement the process. Imagine being sando and sitting on the other side of the desk to triggy, while being told that that there's an issue with competence in the coaching dept. I suppose triggy could use his sanfl coaching record as evidence of his credibility in that area.
Our club is presently mired in mediocrity. It's a culture that is engrained at the very top. We can't be ruthless in a football sense, be it at selection of players or contracting coaches, if we can't be ruthless at board or senior management level. And sadly, that ship has sailed and will continue to, at least as far as the eye can see.
Can't agree with your standard mediocrity statements Matty in respect of this position.
The club knew what it was doing when it appointed Dean Bailey, didn't it? 2012 totally supports that IMO.
Also, when Bailey was unfairly assassinated in 2013 by the AFL and was missing for the major part of the season, we fell in a hole. Once he returned, we looked a whole lot better for his presence and advice.
The timing of Bailey's illness and death during the pre-season has had a major impact on the club's ability to do anything about it this year. All the right people had been snaffled up at the end of the last footy season, and rightly the club hasn't gone out and appointed a B grader in the role for the sake of having a body in it.
The club will be looking at all options both now and during the season, and unlike you, I am confident that they will come up with a good candidate for the role at the end of this season.
PS Neither Trigg or Harper will be responsible for the selection of the successful candidate.
