This was the guy - #17 in the world in 1982

Also - Roscoe had a troubled life after tennis:(
Ah yeah, I vaguely remember Hooper now, thanks. Didn't know all that stuff about Tanner, wow. Although for a high profile player at the time, his prize money is paltry compared to today's $$$ on the tour. Looks like all those marriages and kids didn't help.

So , are we all Greek tonight?! Medvedev is embarrassing in his approach. If you've got a problem, ask for the referee, abusing and screaming at the chair umpire will (hopefully) come back to bite him.

That was disgraceful. Can’t believe the umpire didn’t dock him a point.

Ich bin ein Greek, as they say in Athens.

Some real morons in the crowd here. Who goes to a tennis match and boo’s players as they serve. I don’t like Medvedev…but come on.

Ditto here.

I like tennis, but the antics of the crowd at the Aus Open each year just shits me to tears.

Don’t think what Medvedev did was that bad. Everybody knows Tsitsipas gets coaching from his old man every game. He went over the top and got a code violation for it and apologised to the ump afterwards. You see in his post match interviews that he is super classy and he is an amazing player.

That being said Rafa is my favourite athlete ever and I’ll be going nuts for him to win on Sunday.

Medvedev actually seems like a good bloke. Not sure why everyone doesn't like him.

He got fired up at the ref which was a bit OTT but he had a point. Tsitsipas was getting coached every point.
He should have asked for the match referee, rather than get vitriolic with a chair umpire. He knows that too, they need to both stamp out Tsitsipas' coaching, and Medvedev's antics.
During games, he's a boor, that's why most tennis fans watching live barrack against him.

Tennis is just a strange sport in terms of the mental battle. You are out there alone and in the case of the men’s game sometime battling 4+ hours in oppressive conditions. You are bound to lose your marbles at times.

Personally I think Medvedev is an amazing player to watch and his style is so unique. I have always drifted towards the guys who fight and adapt their games, hence why Nadal is my favourite tennis player and athlete ever.

Putting aside the big 3 Medvedev is clearly the guy who is mentally head and shoulders above everyone else. He’ll have his outbursts but they act as a pressure release valve for him (ala Djokovic).

Tsitsipas and Zverev are still so fragile in big moments while Thiem has had some off court bad luck in recent times. Berettinni is building consistency, Shapivalov is too hot/cold and Sinner is still building. Felix Auger Aliassime looks like he could be the pick of the bunch, power game but a lot composure about him as well.

FAA and Sinner will be the best of the next gen imo.

I love Medvedev as a player but screaming at an umpire like that is inexcusable. It was verbal abuse. It's a disgusting look for sport when competitors abuse the officials like that. I'm glad that it's not tolerated in AFL. He's a champion player and he's going to have an amazing career but I'd like to see him treat his fellow humans with a bit more respect and common decency. The fact that he did another drive-by on the chair umpire after he won the match shows that it wasn't just a case of him losing his head in the moment.

I hate the recent trend of noisy bogans going to the tennis and shouting during points and before players serve. I think tennis would be better to remain as more of a bourgeois sport. I wouldn't be against them raising the price of admission to filter out the lower class people from attending.

Much the same happened in golf over the years. The Yanks with their cries of ‘Get in the hole’ are enough to make me order my butler to change the channel.

FMD. It was her only her third ever ATP final and her first in a grand slam event. She has travelled a different journey to most. She would have been as nervous as hell and would never have spoken to 50 million viewers before.

If she wants to spend 5 minutes thanking the people who got her there, well good on her. She may not be a crowd favourite or a polished speaker but she’s a very impressive tennis player and she’s earned a few minutes at the mike to say whatever she wants.

Probably the least significant moment of the night anyway.
