A royal commission into political extremism could be warranted. There is merit in investigating the impacts of foreign influence (Iran and Israel meddling in western countries’ affairs is not a new phenomenon) and the internal workings of ASIO. But a RC into anti-semitism? Spare me. There are Jewish groups who label any humanitarian concerns around Israel’s conduct in Gaza as anti Jew. It’s dishonest and incites division.

Honestly, I’d say the AJA do more to promote anti-Jewish sentiment than any other group in Australia, and they’re supposedly meant to represent the very people they’re harming.

Given how watered down the Robodebt RC ended up, I have absolutely zero faith in this ending up anything more than a Mossad-driven farce.

I think the royal commission needs to focus on why the agencies involved took their eye off the ball in recent years and shifted resources away from the real threat. There was enough information available to prevent this horrendous attack. Why did the focus shift 4 years ago.
Hateful and at times violent protests were not condemned by the government. I can see why Albo will not have a Royal Commission. Too much to lose.

Considering this was done under the Liberal government I am not sure why Albo has too much to lose?

I think if they go ahead and have a Royal Commission into anti Semitism, than the terms of reference need to be broadened to all forms of racism including against the Muslim communities (who outnumber the Jewish population in Australia) and also includes the views of Jewish people who do not support Israel or Zionism.

My concern is that it will be narrowed, to blame anyone who criticised Israel, either through peaceful demonstrations or public opinion, as somehow responsible for two ISIS gunmen targeting a Jewish event. This will enable a gag order on any Israeli criticism. What this has to do with sport 🤷‍♂️

The LNP and the far right have red hot form when it comes to massaging the ignorance and bigotry of the uneducated. They are concerned about religious extremism in the way that they always are - as a political tool to look after themselves and their mates. And the usual people who lap this up on social media - tell me how many of them don't have a profile picture featuring at least one of the following: a car, a motorbike, a flag or a Rottweiler.
