Disappointing to see the coach joining the likes of Wayne Carey and Sam Newman in support of stupid politicising of a tragedy. Usually the same type of people who want to keep politics out of sport when it's something they disagree with

One of the geniuses supporting this is Sam Newman. If he cared so much about anti-semitism why was he platforming nazis on a podcast recently?
You probably need to listen to the episodes. I think old Sam got himself into something he didn’t intend to - the episode was hijacked by someone other than the person he was interviewing.

Love him or hate him it’s always an interesting listen…not that I’ve listened for a while….usually goes in waves and on long trips for work

Pretty hilarious how the “keep politics out of sport” crowd are suddenly happy about athletes calling for a royal commission because Israel told them it’s needed.

I'm no supporter of people like Sam Newman, but isn't there a difference of having things like a pride round where the AFL is actually promoting a political opinion vs just having an individual political opinion? I think there's a big difference.

Eddie Betts, as an individual, took a knee back in 2020 to show support for the Aboriginal community in spirit of the BLM protests.

The bogans were rabid in their criticism of him in the aftermath, saying politics doesn’t belong in sport.

Funnily enough, Sam Newman criticised Betts at the time.

Why is this situation different? (Rhetorical, I know why…)

Not exactly sure what you're referring to, if Eddie Betts did this when he was on a sporting field that is different because he's representing his team and the AFL. He's not an individual, he's representing his team and the AFL. Why is it different?

Maybe an example of this was when Usman Khawaja wore a black armband in the support of palestine. He was sanctioned by cricket Australia and told not to do this as it was a political statement. That still didn't stop him from having his political opinions away from the sporting field which is more then fine. I think this is an example of how things should be done in the AFL.

I think if they go ahead and have a Royal Commission into anti Semitism, than the terms of reference need to be broadened to all forms of racism including against the Muslim communities (who outnumber the Jewish population in Australia) and also includes the views of Jewish people who do not support Israel or Zionism.

My concern is that it will be narrowed, to blame anyone who criticised Israel, either through peaceful demonstrations or public opinion, as somehow responsible for two ISIS gunmen targeting a Jewish event. This will enable a gag order on any Israeli criticism. What this has to do with sport 🤷‍♂️

It's almost as funny as people not understanding the context as to why it is that Albo is reluctant to hold a Royal Commission into the Bondi atrocity. It might expose the outrageous level of influence that a (well another) foreign government and their proxies have over domestic policy in this country. It might also shed a light on what drove two men to perpetrate their disgusting terrorist act. Acts that for all their nihilistic awfulness didnt happen in isolation regardless of what Israel its local proxies and NewsCorpse would have us believe.

People who think that sport and politics have no business together need to read some history.

Here come the mods in 5, 4, 3, 2...

Don't be stupid. If Bevo is going to use his high profile /platform which he only has because of his job people are allowed to be disappointed with him

I think the royal commission needs to focus on why the agencies involved took their eye off the ball in recent years and shifted resources away from the real threat. There was enough information available to prevent this horrendous attack. Why did the focus shift 4 years ago.
Hateful and at times violent protests were not condemned by the government. I can see why Albo will not have a Royal Commission. Too much to lose.

I totally disagree, people are allowed opinions away from their job. If he's doing this in press conferences and Western Bulldogs events then sure he can bugger off.
