In 2016 Hawthorn finished 18th for contested possession
differential and yet still finished top four with the double
chance, i agree with you though they are not certain
finalists this year mainly due to their age profile. Who
comes in well that is the fascinating part.
They were so good with the ball that they managed to win enough games to be up there again, but they always gave teams a chance to beat them giving them first use in the middle. This year they will be starting from even further back without Lewis & Sam Mitchell

Last year they kept just getting by in the close ones. They won't be able to do that again. I think this might be the year Hawthorn finally decline.

I agree, Lewis had 633 Disposals last year the exact same as
Marcus Bontempelli our Sutton Medalist and he played two
less games for those disposals so he was far from a spent
force. Hawthorn deserve to miss finals for their out with the
old and in with the new attitude and for drafting a young
kid named Mitchell Lewis which can't be a coincidence.

That's some fantastic revisionist history. He was the captain and best player of our club, he directly lied to our club president, ceo, and Chris Grant saying he would work with said coach, then he came back from holiday having been in talks with the Giants the entire season notified the club through management after the GWS account had already tweeted his desire to move to them, then he went "hunting" unable to be reached or talked into going to another club for a better deal, killing our dealing hand. Do the right thing for us my ******* arse!

He was weak, spineless, stupid and could've killed us off. That Gordon was such a great operator does not absolve him of what he almost did.
Lol mike he bevr lied to the club and never committed after that meeting get it right mate.

The club ignored him for over a year and then you expect him to be happy and keep eating the shit they feed him?

Please mate their is two sides and the dogs were wrong in ignoring the continued pleas of its captain and best player as you stated.

Without him walking we have no Bev or Boyd, less than 30k members and defiantly no flag.

**** O'Meara looked good today. It's gonna be the Burgoyne deal all over again, everyone was laughing when they sold the farm for him and his dodgy knee.

Say what you want about the Hawks, but they don't shy away from making a big call.

Always think of this when I think of Hawthorn/Mitchell/Clarkson (although Clarko has become more likeable over the last few years..)

Not sure the point of debating Griffen and whether he is the devil incarnate or saviour who the club did not listen to.

Up till his last year with the club was a loyal servant who played his heart out. Yes he left in circumstances that were not ideal, but it did not hurt the club at all in the end. The club is always bigger than the individual.

For me the poignant moment was he and C Smith attacking the ball, game in GWS favour seeing who will step up. Griff in the end represented 7 lost prelims and Clay the future. Clay won the contest Caleb goaled. That one peice of play erased what we had been to what we are now, reigning premiers.

Griffen will always be welcomed back in my opinion, for what he had done. He represents what was nearly there but not quite good enough. But I for one will not forever hang him out to dry

We wouldn't have the Geneva convention without World War Two. Should we be glad that happened too?

Griff shit the bed.

Yes he ******* did. I know that for a fact. Whoever told you differently is full of it and should hang his head in shame like the piece of shit player in question.
I know both sides and Griffen doesn't dispute anything I said so check your facts before you defend the arsehole.
He can rot and never come back as far as I'm concerned.

Also bullshit without Gordon we wouldn't have those things, if it was up to Ryan we'd have no ******* club.
That you'd defend him is bloody low.

No he didn't and Gordon has admitted such since the meeting so relax.

I will defend the bloke til the end of time because regardless what you think he got rid of Macca and we ended up with Bev.

For that and that alone he should be thanked.

This makes no sense at all. So hypothetically if we didn't end up with Bev and didn't win the premiership, then Griff would be a scum bag? If Monty becomes coach and we continue to wallow at the bottom of the ladder, your opinion changes? What if Macca doesn't fall on his sword? Griff still a hero then? The basis of your view is completely illogical.
You can't give Griffen credit with us being lucky enough to have a once in a generation coach available to us at that exact time. Griff must be judged on his actions alone, not the fact that as a club we managed to salvage a terrible situation into something great.

No Gordon hasn't. You just made that up.
I heard Chris Grant himself recount the story so whatever bullshit you heard is just that.

If you want to thank and defend someone who stuck a knife in your back and then spat in your eye (lost dogs twitter campaign) you go ahead. I and I think most here have more integrity than that.
