Witts out for the season with an ACL
Goodbye Gold Coast. Would've liked to see them compete for finals this year, but with your captain and only remaining fit ruckman being out for the season, I just can't see how they'd finish outside the bottom 6 now.

The player they could least afford to lose.

Massive drop off in terms of depth regarding the Sun's ruck depth. Both of whom (Zac Smith (PCL) and Matt Conroy (ACL) recovering from their own knee injuries.

This is awful.
Yep. The cupboard is pretty bare. Murtagh could be gifted a few games as the tallest bloke left on the list, more likely Graham or Burgess go through there though. Maybe Hombsch goes in as a Trengove style ruck?

Last option would be Ben King, you'd hope.

Burgess seems to be the sacrificial lamb. No way they put King in there.

Mid season draft will help.

The Witts injury to me goes to show why you absolutely need 4 rucks on this list.

It's not like small forwards/small defender depth. You can role mids through the forward line etc but the ruck is a specialised position that only 3-4 players on a list can perform.

4 rucks (2 in the 1s and 2 in the 2s) to me is the ideal number. I still think we are short one ruck.

Schache and Young often play backup ruck in the 2's. From all reports, Young actually played some of his best footy there, too.

This is where utilities come in handy. A tall guy developing in a number of positions can be really important. Blicavs, Marshall, McInerney, McDonald, Brander, Mcartin are some good players right now that can play multiple roles. Getting 4 players for 1 specialised role is a bit much, unless they're key to your brand (which they aren't for ours).

Young would be that man for us. Mainly a defender of course, but if we've gone through all other options he can play defence, forward, or ruck.

Maybe Jordon Sweet will try to get up there next year? He probably won't be getting a game for us, even after Martin retires. Rucks are the most likely types to change clubs for senior opportunities. So many at their second (or third) clubs.

Yeah I've been expecting it could happen eventually if he doesn't debut any time soon. Saints offered Draper a $1.8million contract (4 years) before he'd even debuted, and he was taken in the rookie draft the year before Sweet

There seems to be more key defenders injured than usual...

Adelaide: Talia
Brisbane: Gardner (granted, he's probably back this week)
Essendon: Hurley
Freo: Hamling, Pearce
Gold Coast: Thompson
GWS: Davis
Hawthorn: Sicily
Norf: Tarrant, McDonald
St Kilda: Frawley
W Bulldogs: Gardner

It's possible I've missed some, but more than half the league have one of their key defenders injured at the moment.

Hartigan let off with a $2k fine for smacking Hawkins in the back of the head six years after the mark was taken

Michael Christian needs to be punted into the Yarra
