both expansion sides had the tools to start with to make a competitive team with a balanced list and both decided that being good in the future was a higher priority. It seems like it MIGHT work but they definitely made their job harder from the start for no good reason

Fremantle running a 'Wear White on the Night' promotion for fans because they'll be wearing their white away strip against Carlton on Thursday at Subiaco. 5 of the best dressed fans will be invited onto the ground at half time for a chance at a $500 EFTPOS gift card.

Seems like a dangerous throwback to that KKK mad monday debacle they had all those years ago.

So what I've just learnt. Not only are Sydney getting a steal with Heeney this year they could get another kid rated around 20 with their 2nd rounder. Then next year Brissy have a top 10 rated kid (at this stage) in their academy, Sydney have another 2 top 10 rated kids (again at this stage) one academy, one father son. This is getting ridiculous.

We can trade for them you know Collingwood and the Saints have done that before.

I don't believe you can trade for the new academy players, but I could be wrong. Even if we could though its pretty bullshit that we'd have to give something to these teams who are effectively getting something for nothing.

I can't see why we can't have an academy of our own, just say we need to grow the game in the western suburbs or some shit.

I have no problem with am academy in Sydney, but the players should be avalible to all clubs. It's laughable that some Sydney people compare it to f/s.

That will never work though because those clubs pay for the academys, so they will only do it if they get something out of it. But it can't stay as it is because as they put more and more resources into and the game grows over there will just pump out more and more top kids and get them on the cheap. Completely agree that it is ridiculous they try and compare the two, they've got both next year FFS!

What needs to happen is the AFL need to fund the academies themselves and then everybody, not just the northern clubs, are the benefit of it.

God I hope the Crows beat Port in an elimination final this year, Port have one and a half good seasons and 90% of their supporters turn into dicks.
I'd rather they finish 7th and 8th and both get knocked out.

It's either Port fans sensationally overrating their list and spewing their arrogant tripe about rebuilding, or Crows fans claiming their birthright to a premiership (I quote from 1997 - "we've waited SIX years for this!") despite being a glorified state team. I don't think I could take a summer of one of them feeling as if they were right.

Spot on about their supporters, especially over the whole Wines/Macrae thing.

Even though I shouldn't want Adelaide do well, I do. Mainly given to going to school with one of their players and he being a very good bloke.

Oh god, I know. They've developed an unbelievable arrogance about every aspect of their club, that Wines/Macrae thread is a testament to that. Apparently, penciling them in for 2-3 premierships in the next 6 seasons, with Wingard to get a couple of Norm Smiths is just par for the course for what they can achieve.

I can't stand Adelaide as a club - adopting the state nickname and colours (well, close enough) and beating us in that 1997 final before stomping on cars with Footscray stickers in Yarra Park is just more than I can handle. I went to school with Sloane though, briefly, and have a lot of time for him.

Yeah... sorry about that one  I just got annoyed with all of them saying how Wines was streets ahead of Macrae, how Macrae's just a seagull, and saying Wines is going to be the best player of the draft when he quite clearly has the lowest ceiling. And I used to like Port :(

I like Port. They've got a good coach, a few exciting players, they play a good brand and they've got a terrific set of jumpers.

Their supporters, on the other hand...

Supporters make or break a club for me. It's why I like Gold Coast so much, I went to a game at Metricon last year and all of their supporters were awesome and easy to talk to.

Do you think it's because they haven't tasted massive amounts of disappointment yet? :D

I went to Gold Coast this year and nearly got into a fight, but maybe that's just me :p

I like their supporters though, I spoke to one on here quite extensively around the time that I was up there, and they were generally very friendly. I'd love to go to a footy match like that every week - brilliant sunshine, nice and warm, carnival atmosphere and so close to the play you can hear Liam Picken say 'Get up, Gaz.'

I dunno, I reckon I became a little more antisocial and aggressive at the footy after watching the replay of the '98 prelim for the first time. Not to mention Riewoldt's diving ass more recently.
Riewoldt... My god that night. I became a true Dogs supporter that night. And by which I mean I almost punched a Saints supporter in the head....
