Sorry you lot, it was the dockers fault this happened.It's not even a secret. They held an investigation in 2007 into the lack of Vic teams winning the GF.

2006 Is the only season Fremantle finished higher than all 10 Victorian sides. lol

The big change from that review was ramping up their Under-age comp.
And have exported that model to QLD and NSW.
Better quality juniors coming through makes their AFL clubs stronger.

Not to mention a lot of that is now funded…indirectly….through the new MCG GF deal they quietly pushed through a few years ago. Effectively the Vic Gov secure all the tourism and all that comes with hosting the GF by promising more money for Victorian football ammenities upgrades…who helps pay for this outside the Vic taxpayer? The non Victorian supporter.

End of the day, we joined their league.
Why should the "AFL" care about non Victorian clubs playing off in GFs, to the point of having a formal review into it.
Answer, it is really the VFL.

Correct. If WCE and Syd had've delayed their decision to join, the VFL may have gone bust and we may have had a proper national competition.

We bailed them out.
But we paid to join their league.
All historical records are VFL. The most successful clubs in AFL era are Hawthorn/WCE. Not Collingwood/Carlton/Essendon.
The bar to join the HoF is higher for historical non AFL/VFL players

As others have said, if we'd all waited a few years, half their clubs would've folded, which would've been better

Brisbane & WCE - not Sydney.
Sydney were just a transplanted South Melbourne. They moved to the Harbour City long before Brisbane & WCE entered the competition.
Brisbane Bears & WCE were entirely new teams, whose license fees propped up the VFL's finances.
