My view is that playing AFL is a privilege and the AFL should hold it in such high regard that anyone charged with crimes over a certain benchmark should be banned for life.

So I guess that would include Pickett.

Many organisations have a fit & proper persons test.
I do hope you meant convicted, istead of charged!

Really? What about Richmond's armed robber Pickett?

Not all crimes are the same.

For instance an armed robbery with no-one injured or assaulted is not the same as an armed robbery with someone assaulted or injured.

Think Tarryn had his chances and has blown them all.

Time to deregister him if the AFL is serious.

Pickett has been convicted of grievous bodily harm, burglary, and assault.

After that, he was a drug dealer and then convicted of multiple counts of burglary and aggravated burglary.

Then, after being given a lifeline and privilege of playing AFL (apparently a feel good story, not sure his victims would agree), went and ('allegedly') committed aggravated burglary shortly after playing a match.

Add to this his list of on-field thuggery.

He should not be playing AFL.

Also the insinuation that armed robbery without an assault is a victimless crime is a very ignorant one.

I am 100% the opposite.

Playing AFL is 100% about talent. If you are deemed to be fit for society - you should be allowed to play footy.

Many organisations have a fit & proper persons test.

The biggest mistake people make is comparing a footy club to a corporation.

Hasn't Tarryn only been in trouble twice?

Once for driving with a suspended license.

And then he threatened to distribute pr0n of his ex girlfriend and was forced to pay a $1,000 fine to charity?

What am I missing? Has he had other charges?

The allegations he was actually sacked for.

It's hard to find useful info on what he did - the AFL page is vague (likely deliberately), and the other sources are untrustworthy (usually The Daily Mail, The Sun, etc.), so it's hard to say anything for certain. But he was given a lifeline with the educational program, and then seemingly did something - or multiple somethings - pretty soon after that.

In a report by The Herald Sun, the AFL Integrity Unit was made aware of allegations against Thomas that include harassment and threatening behaviour, with one woman reportedly hospitalised from an incident last year and subsequently provided with a psychologist by the league.

The AFL are understood to have begun cooperating with a family violence investigation unit following the incident.

Further allegations were made against Thomas by multiple women, with the 22-year-old allegedly telling a woman he wanted to beat her, sending threatening text messages and throwing a lamp at a woman in a hotel room.

News Corp's report states the AFL were alerted to Thomas' alleged behaviour and told one woman the North Melbourne player's actions were "not acceptable" last July.

It is understood that two women have been left disappointed in the AFL's handling of the matter.

It's discouraging to see that the AFL and North Melbourne are aware how many women have (made allegations against Tarryn), yet it is still being overlooked," one victim told The Herald Sun.

“It feels as though Tarryn is untouchable and the women he has affected have been silenced, due to fear and power imbalance. The women affected have been offered counselling sessions by the AFL which just feels like an attempt to keep us at bay by making us feel like they care and are supporting us so we are less inclined to speak up.

“Tarryn is being treated like he has committed a white-collar crime but there is nothing white-collar about threatening, intimidating, abusing, assaulting and stalking multiple women. This makes me feel like he is untouchable and on a pedestal and I question whether this would be the same had it been a different player or team”.

Text messages between Thomas and one woman have also been reportedly uncovered, with Thomas allegedly telling the woman: “You're a f —king joke … keep talking sh-t … sh-t going to come around soon … your turn will come … sh-t is going to go down … I'm not a n---- to be f —ked with.”

Further messages from another woman speaking on Thomas read: “I'm too scared … i know he's gonna kill me”.

Then a year later:

"Tarryn came back to the club midway through last year pledging to be better."

“The fact that Tarryn chose to engage in behaviour over direct messages that was, and is, clearly inappropriate, even while he was undertaking education and being counselled for previous breaches contributed to the length of suspension imposed.”

Not far off it, difference between a armed robbery that injures someone and one that doesn’t?
What’s the difference?
You think they'd have the same charges and sentence?

Armed robbery only requires threat of force. Actually using force would likely result in GBH, assault or other charges in addition.

In individual games he has.

Lets not forget that he has effectively played 5 seasons of AFL (2019 - 2023). During those 5 seasons he has had 6 different head coaches (Brad Scott, Rhys Shaw, David Noble, Leigh Adams, Alister Clarkson, Brett Ratten) and played in a side that won 22 games during those 5 seasons (of which 10 wins came in 2019).

Add in his off field drama and what he has done on the football field is actually pretty impressive.

If everyone is happy enough for Marlion Pickett to play - surely Tarryn should be given another go.

I'm not, no way he should be playing.

This is one that constantly baffles me.

He's treated like some feel-good story, but in reality he is a convicted violent criminal, who is a dirty player on field, and despite given all these additional chances, commits another serious offence.

Should never be allowed on the field.

Don't forget the massive sob story about him during the Covid wage cuts.
