I don't like this at all, hate it as it'll been even harder to sack coaches that have clauses that say safe if makes finals.

Imagine if we keep Nicks because he "made finals" finishing 10th and losing the first week

In my opinion, the federal government should step in and remind the AFL that they are a tax exempt organisation because they supposedly serve the community. If the AFL wants to keep that status then they should start acting like one. Blackmailing a state government (and by extension its citizens) into paying for a stadium that it does not want is not the behaviour of a community organisation.

Tasmania should have a team in the national competition, and Bellerive Oval is a viable option as a home ground. Building a new stadium with a roof at this stage is not about serving the community, it’s about maximising profits for the AFL. If the AFL wants to behave like a corporation then they can be taxed as one. Otherwise, commit to bringing the Tasmanian team in, stadium or not, and then work on negotiating for a new home ground/redevelopments.

Tax exemption is not predicated upon "serving the community". It's predicated upon what happens with net assets in the event that the association is wound up. They're not a charity, they are focussed on running and growing the game. The decisions that they've made with respect to Tassie aligns with their mission statement.

They just can’t leave the game alone.

Over the past 100 years, it has never been left alone.

Everyone was up in arms when Friday night footy came along, then we had night footy on Saturday night, the night Finals, then twilight finals and shortly a twilight Grand Final. Just to name a few.

The broadcasters pay a shit load of money and are entitled to have input into the game.

No one wants a floating fixture - the AFL give us a floating fixture

No one wanted Opening Round - the AFL inflicted Opening Round on us

No one wanted a Wildcard Round - you better believe the AFL inflicts Wildcard round on us

People want investment in the AFLW from the AFL - crickets

So top 6 have a weeks break. During that break 7th plays 10th and 8th plays 9th in an elimination round and then “normal” top 8 finals after that. I need time to think on this
Okay I’ve got some thoughts. We are about to move to a 19 team comp if The Devils get their act together. So we amend it for an 18 team comp and then have a similar issue in 3 years time? I think I need to understand the why? What are they really trying to achieve. They should do it the year The Devil’s join the comp. Wait another 3 years!

We’re a bit precious in the AFL sometimes.

The Indian cricket team is happy to play at Bellerive Oval.
The NFL is happy to play in the snow.
The EPL allows games to be played at some sub par venues at times.

I agree, long term the Tasmania team should be looking to build a new stadium, but A) a roof is not a necessity, and B) Bellerive Oval is a perfectly viable option for now

Indian cricket team plays there in middle of winter?

Basically prevents teams 7 & 8 to do any damage in the finals.

Teams can now play finals with a losing record.

In the last 15 seasons, only 4 times did the 10th side have a losing record - 2013, 2016, 2021 and when we finished 10th in 2023. The 9th side never had a losing record in those 15 years.

They had 8 out of 15 teams in 1994 qualify for finals, the year before the Dockers became the 16th side.

.

That might be me done with the AFL. Another gimmick no one wants or asked for, but the league knows it will generate money so they go ahead and do it anyway.

I love the idea. Better to have 2 games pre-finals than an entire weekend without footy. Plus 7th and 8th don’t deserve the same benefits of the top 6. A VIC team can finish 8th, get a week’s rest and play home finals all the way to the GF. If it makes it harder for a side like that, then that’s enough reason on its own. 2 extra games is purely a bonus.

What a waste the Dockers have been. Same amount of flags as the expansion teams

Floating fixture is good, they’re just shit at doing it.

Opening round is crap.

Pre-finals elimination is good.

AFL is sinking hundreds of million$ into AFLW. It’s nearly time it started repaying the faith.
