Yes because that would have a far greater effect on the game.
The game is still Aussie rules. Players just have 30 seconds to dispose of it. How would it effect the game?

Slow it down? Lower scoring? Closer games?

Genuinely curious on your thoughts as it sounds like you believe it would be a negative despite having a black and white rule.

It would be unwatchable due to teams slowing the play down at times.
Surely you can see that?

I have no issue with rules changing for the better but I don’t see the point in changing something that in my opinion doesn’t affect the game.
Especially when there’s a very high chance its going to negatively affect the game more than the problem it was trying to solve.

Of course I can see that, but surely you can see there is a flaw in the rule? Even if it is not in your top 100 things to fix.

Imagine explaining this to someone new to the game. Field kicks have 10 seconds to kick the ball but if you tell the umpire, you are kicking for goal, you've got 30 seconds. But also, you can kick the ball to a teammate after 30 seconds if you tell the umpire you're kicking for goal.

You mark the ball within range, why shouldn’t you get a chance at kicking for goal?
And if a better option comes up why should you get penalized?
It’s still up to the umpires discretion if they are close enough.
Honestly it seems straight forward enough.

Cool, if you don't think there is a flaw, all good. The two questions you raised weren't the issue, it was picking and choosing when to apply a rule.

Isn’t the game full of that though?
Such as hitting the ball out on the full when in a marking contested constituted by the umpire vs not being in one?
The umpire determines if it’s a marking contest or not just as they determine if the player is within kicking distance.

Is it in your top 100? Where does it rank for you?

I love these nuances

Just like travel in basketball is called midfield and not near the basket

Are these the same nuances that allow some players to run over 25 metres without bouncing the ball and some players have to bounce it every 15?

Yes

It does have an effect on the game. It just doesn't happen that often.

It's just a clear flaw, it's fine that you don't care about it. The rule might as well be that all players get 30 seconds no matter where they are after marking it, would you have an issue with that?

It’s not even an issue. Surely a player who intends to kick for goal can change their mind if a better option presents. A shorter amount of time around the ground makes sense if the aim is to get the game moving.

The current rule is already black and white.

You can't disagree that PORT have developed a list of "List Cloggers" ...... Stars and Bums ain't going to get you a flag in this comp

When you don’t participate in the national draft, have no choice but to bring in recycled types.

Port have used up way too much draft capital on bringing in players from other clubs & many for overseas.

Will take Port a while to rebuild their depth.

And yet, there are posters applauding the aggressive use of trade picks to get star players ......there's the sugar hit of getting them ....then there's the long-term consequences of using so much capital

CARL used an irresponsible number of Draft Picks to work their way up the Draft Board to get Jagga Smith ..... I get it, if you have all the other puzzle pieces in play .....but CARL haven't

PORT have made a poor calculation of where their list sits .....and in 2 years have added more list cloggers to a list already containing cloggers

I'll never understand any team paying a first round pick for Lukoscious

The current rule is already black and white.
It's not the rule, it's the fact that twenty seconds plus is allowed to be taken off the clock. The original comment made was in regards to time wasting.

I'm not sure how much time a player is allowed in general play, but let's say it's nine seconds, then time should be stopped after nine seconds if a player is lining up for goal to prevent this. It is such an obvious flaw that players take advantage of to waste time.

This is a professional organisation, just because it's low on the list of things to fix, doesn't mean it should be ignored.

There's been not much praise for them here for awhile. After 2018 they were praised and lived off that for some time. That was 7 years ago now.

JHF and Rioli to PORT in 2022 ..... 6 years and 4 years respectively ....and I'd suggest on very good money

4 years into the JHF Contract .....you'd have to be disappointed in the return ....noting, I love him as a player

I think the cheerleading was a bit more recent than 2018, IMO ;)

Are these the same nuances that allow some players to run over 25 metres without bouncing the ball and some players have to bounce it every 15?
If we’re talking nuance / inconsistency I have a big one in that regard

15m is the distance you can run without a bounce
15m is the distance for a kick to count as a mark

The Same people adjudicating the game have a very different interpretation of what constitutes 15m in Either case

Port took Lukosius off Gold Coast as a salary dump & should never have given up a 1st rounder... & they gave up a 2x All Australian as part of the package.

I don’t think depth is ‘built’. Depth are the players that should be looking to improve upon but reality is there’s not much point selecting beyond the 3rd round, so you keep them around until they can be replaced with a decent replacement. Rinse and repeat.

To be fair, similar to us when we got Gibbs, it was valued as a late first rounder at the time. Future trading carries risk and if you’re spending, it’s always you wearing the discount.

Kanes always wrong though….

I must have missed a post or 2. I’d be happy if time was stopped when an umpire is providing the extra time for a shot at goal. No problem at all. Let the clock go for the 9 seconds (or whatever) that is allowed in general play and then it stops until the ball is kicked or the ump calls play on. Really comfortable with that.
