Saw Brisbane took Curtin. He wasn't even expected to go by my research in the top 50 at all, maybe was struggling to even get drafted. That was the assessment anyway. So could this be a sideways play by Brisbane to try and lure Dan to the Lions under the PR by his brother of his desire to play at the Crows with Dan. Just appears interesting timing they took him just before the crows pick. The Crows selection of ludowyke was rated much higher and expected to go in the first round or near the first round. So Brisbane's selection almost smacks of a desperate idiotic attempt to get back at us for Ah Chee. i suspect we probably weren't even going to take Curtin if he was available. Due to ludowyke availability. There was no noise of interest in us in Curtin.
You’re overthinking it.

It's pretty funny that there was the one (or two?) seasons where NGA's couldn't be matched in the first round, and that's how Gold Coast took Mac Andrew from Melbourne's NGA

then suddenly you can match again when the Suns have their haul coming up

The Northern Academies aren't NGAs, they never had any restrictions on them.

The 4 'northern' clubs between them can literally pick anyone from Qld or NSW, and I believe GC can get anyone from NT.

Win a final, trade out 2 first round picks for a superstar midfielder, get 2 picks in the top 5 anyway.

haha ok even worse
Melbourne miss out on an NGA to Gold Coast of all clubs and then they bring the rules back in afterwards

I do like how Port posters are worried the rules will change in time to stuff up matching a bid on Cochrane for cheap

But let's be honest that is complete rubbish how they have access to him, completely cynical and antithetical to what the NGAs are supposed to achieve

a kid whose Dad played AFL and who never grew up blak does not have systemic disadvantages to overcome to make it

Crows having access to Borlase is just as stupid, but he status as depth unlikely to get another contract means that its glossed over more

I think the reason no other club seem to care much about Cochrane is these rule changes. Power may have to use their first round pick to match a bid if he gets a first round bid.

It's a leg up for them, but not like how it would have been this year.

isnt that rule change and change back how we missed out on NWM?

The difference is, everyone knew Borlase was born in Egypt. Born there whilst his dad Daryl worked there.

The way Port/Cochrane family went about gaining NGA status once it looked like Dougie was good at Footy makes a mockery of the program.

isnt that rule change and change back how we missed out on NWM?
No, for other stupid reasons WA and SA didn't have access to metro Aboriginal players (NWM was in our academy but we couldn't bid on him), unlike Victoria - for example Jesse Motlop was in Freos academy but Carlton took him. It seems like that rules been changed as well.

Rookie upgrades count towards the 3 selections. They're upgrading 3 rookies.
Isn't it they just need 3 changes and they brought in 2 nuffies in trades?

The Cochrane decision is disgusting, everyone has to be nominated in their 15th year, and meant to have been tightend minimum requirments for involvement in development over that period. What development have they had in a 17yo already playing senior Sanfl footy with Centrals?

Pretty funny Port didn't draft anyone. But I guess they have been blessed by the ridiculous decision to allow Cochrane into their NGA.

The children of former AFL players that have no connection to country are the most deserving of a leg up.

What happened to Jaidyn Stephenson. Werent they going to bring him back? did he end up opting out?

Power would have been able to draft Dyson Sharp if they kept that pick they gave for Lukosius. That's going to be an interesting watch.
Still defies logic. Paying any pick at all for an out of favour salary dump. He should have come with at least a 2nd rounder, not a Rat Atkins. Even if they valued their pick at flag winners, it’s a massive overpay, just be prepared to walk away and you’ll end up with him and gifts. And not Rat Atkins type gifts.
