Disappointing we couldn't prise Will Day away from this rabble

1 player taken from North of the Barassi line last national draft, and that was the father/son of a Tasmanian, so effectively zero.
Swans have been in Sydney for 40 years, Brisbane Bears/Lions have been in Qld for 35 years. The impact they have had on breeding players in those states over those decades is minimal.
Lenny Hayes family came from Melbourne, his father and grandfather played for Geelong
The McVeighs family also came from Melbourne to the NSW Central coast, their father Tony played with Williamstown in the VFA. Which is my point that they weren't grown by the AFL through the presence of the swans/giants, they are simply the product of a transplanted Aussie Rules family that was always going to choose that code over Rugby.
The Jack's definitely count as " converts" as their father played Rugby League.
I don't know much about Braeden Campbell's background other than he went to a private school (Knox Grammar) which seems to be one of the few rare genuine paths to playing Aussie rules for Sydney natives, along with coming from some of those more exclusive eastern suburbs probably at least partly due to a significant number of ex-melburnians in those areas.
Junior coaching is pretty piss poor tbh.

In my draft year (2008) we had the best team NSW has ever put on the park.

There was probably only 2 good junior coaches around. Forest's coach and Westbrook's coach. Forest's coach built his team up from really young, developed 2 NSW Scholarship players in that team (Pryor and Long), recruited another (Reed), and his younger son as well who was 2 years younger (Brain) would play up in his team. Then 2 or 3 others who made the state team (Brain, and the FF who relocated from Sydney by the time I joined the team). Then Westbrook's team, there was a set of twins, I can't remember their names, I only played 1 game with them (when I joined Penno for senior footy, as an underager I was in the 2nd u18s team, but I played with them in 1 game I played in the 1st u18s team), 1 of which I know was a scholarship player. But Ediriwickrama was a good story. Cricketer (he's Sri Lankan), the Westbrook coach was doing auskick sessions at schools. He identified Ranga, got him into his team, and coached him from nothing to making it onto an AFL list. I genuinely believe he would've played for Geelong had he not had injury issues (Think he'd miss more games than he'd be available for with constant hamstring injuries)

Have a read of this bullshit take

What this reads: All blockbuster games should be in Melbourne. Barrett even wants the Showdown there ffs.

It will always be the VFL to these pricks.
Yano - When the fixture was released I was pissed, no good games.

But things have changed.

But what I don't like is how some games are ONLY happening at Gather Round.

Should be double up games only.

i heard last week that the AFL are closing to signing a deal for the Gather round to be here next year aswell
I'm pretty sure I saw something that in the agreement to get it here in the first place, was written that 2 of the first 3 will be here.

How much would the latter game get anyway? Like Saints are hardly a big drawcard?

That defending by Hawks, oh my gosh.

Excluding GFs, Essendon and Melbourne have played in front of a crowd of 75k exactly once in the history of the VFL. Round 10 1962.
Saints and Collingwood have exceeded 75k twice in minor rounds - in 2010 when they both made the grand final and Queen’s Birthday 1992.

And Will Day extends his contract for 4 years - wow!
