Freo look horrible but not sure they need to panic. I think it's a common enough pattern that a young team has a big spike up the ladder before a few poor years while they build to contend again.

We spiked up in 2012 before poor years and then contending again in 2016-17, Hawthorn spiked in 08 then had poor years before building to contend again. The dogs spiked in 16 before poor years then contending again. Melbourne jumped into finals in 2018 before finishing 17th in 2019 and then contending from 2021 onwards.

I'm all for a Tasmanian team but I think it will be very difficult for them to be successful.

They need to produce far more AFL level players than they do as a state.

They will need draft concessions, which always sucks for all the other teams.

They'll probably need some sort of COLA or retention allowance. They will be the least attractive club to play for from a location perspective.

If Fremantle can't win one in nearly 30 years, it's a long road ahead for Tasmania.

But hopefully it will bring greater equalization and a more national focus to the game, which will make the AFL better

Difficult to be successful. Mate 30 years in Freo are not close to a flag. Money money money.

I dont believe the AFL's agenda is for a Tasmanian team, but for another feeder Club for the Victorian teams.

A Tasmanian team should have enough support to survive and even thrive, but to win a flag seems extremely ever unlikely.

Who cares of they are successful. Are GWS and GC? Adl hasnt won in 25 yrs and Port not in 20.

Keep.propping up VFL.

The AFL don’t want teams outside of Victoria to win flags.

If De Koning also ends up at Cats fair dinkum it’s time to fold the league
You realize its been over 7 months since the Cats last won a flag.

VFL fairytale is for another hat trick of flags to a Victorian team.

Its not in the best interests both financially and commercially for a non VFL side to win the flag, aside from Sydney.
Sydney vs Brisbane in the next 10 grand finals, splitting them 5/5, with Gold Coast and GWS both making finals in all 10 years

If the Vic government had a brain though, they'd be pushing for a pro-Crom policy within the AFL

If we're strong and up and about, we can bring the fans to Victoria (particularly, country victoria) and pump more money into their economy than otherwise.
