I think any system has flaws

Whether it's a panel or coaches or life members there will always be a tendency to follow the herd

Coaches are concentrating on so many things it's impossible for them to judge apart from ' who the **** is on Daicos'

I would suggest coaches votes are given to a minion to put in.

I don't have a perfect system either because I thought at one stage umpires did see stats until people complained that they picked the 3,2,1 on stats alone

When do you give votes? Immediately after the heat of a game or after time for reflection?

All this would be a pain in the arse in the most important week of your career, especially if you’ve done it all once before.

I can honestly understand why he looked less than enthusiastic last night.

I mean he’ll look back on it and be glad he won, but at the moment he’s got far bigger fish to fry and it’d be really hard to be showing up for this shit.

I was shocked Andrews got a few BOG votes. Usually the umpires forget the backline exists.
They still do largely.
It's really poor. The problem is there will be a push for umpires to see stats - which will make it worse.
I get annoyed when midfielders pick up 26 disposals and tick the box that they have had a good game, when their direct opponent picked up 10 and was the reason they actually won. Stats aren't everything.

It's a simple fix. Pick a panel of ex-players. They are allocated a game to watch each. They go to the game (yes fly there - the AFL can afford it.) They allocate the 3 votes. I think they will have a better idea of who actually influenced the game.

I can't fault the bozo's statistics and what not, but **** me I can't stand Hamish Rompingwins' talk show style of "interviewing" that solely exists of him prompting them to tell a story they've told previously or something they've said previously.

"Now Lachie, I remember one time you were 12 years old and you wanted to buy a soft serve 30c cone from McDonalds but you only had 20c. Do you remember what you said to the cashier that day?"

"I said I'd come back later."

"That's right. And you did come back. Tonight. After being behind early. To win your second Brownlow. And do you remember how many licks it took you to finish that 30c cone?"

"Erm..."

"40 licks and 2 bites. A Personal Best."

This got cut off at the end so don’t know what he went on to say here….

But it’s always a weird quirk that the three players everyone has at the pointy end of GOAT discussions (Carey, Matthews, Ablett Snr) didn’t win one.

Neale is a great player, but not the best this year.

Him winning shows how bad umpires' knowledge of Footy and feel for the game is becoming.

The move to 4 umpires (plus emergencies) means the talent pool is bigger. They need more umpires, so bring in more guys that are not up to it.

I am happy for Neale. I think he is a deserving winner. He is one of the best players in a team playing in the Grand Final.

Victorians are losing their minds because they didn't see enough of his games.

The AFL's own Brownlow predictor had him winning with 32 votes. Not sure why him winning with 31 was such a shock to everyone.

Where can I subscribe to your Tiktok?

I love the randomness of the Brownlow. These wtf votes are part of its charm.

I keep a mental bingo card of the following happening:
  • a game late in the season where all vote winners get their first votes for the nights
  • a game where the losing team gets all the votes
  • games where all vote winners are suspended

Any others?

That's it, the umpires have no feel for the game as most look like they have never played.
Just got straight into the umpiring of the game and are career umpires
It's why so many people are frustrated with the game and then you can understand why there is a such a big descrepency between coaches votes and brownlow votes

I said that before. I must admit I have to think about which one it is when they play.

Bergman’s the one thats the better player..

JHF is the one that does something flashy a couple of times a game and spends the rest of his time lazily jogging around after his opponent..

Absolutely sickening how North get gifted all these picks due to awful list management.

But will be gifted a top pick for McKay who’s managed 71 games since 2016 because he’s a North player, if he was playing for any other team it’ll be a second or third round pick

It's putrid. Their finals drought is a whole one year longer than ours. In that time we've gone from top to bottom, and in the process literally gutted our club. From players, to coaches, and admin. And if not for a crosseyed hero goal umpire we'd have played finals this year.

Your reward for being shit is pick 2. Take it and use it properly ffs.
