Why is North holding the AFL hostage? They have now said they won't let McKay go unless they are guaranteed top tier compensation??? That's not how free agency works. Supposedly if they aren't given pick 3 they'll match Essendon 's bid and make it extremely difficult for them to acquire McKay's services.

We didn't have any special exclusive zone access to Walker. All NSW scholarship players were available to all clubs to sign, it was whoever got in first. I think the story goes that Walker begged us to sign him.

However once we did sign him, we could take him exclusively in the draft once he was draft eligible

I think looking back and could be wrong
But yes he was an open market
The rest is history

Belief at the time though was Roos got a steal nabbing Edwards. Not sure if he was just overrated or hasn't developed being behind Goldstein, Xerri and others though.
